The Effect of Peer-to-Peer Education about the Significance of Specialty Certification on Empowering Nurses Working in Dialysis
Nephrol Nurs J. 2022 May-Jun;49(3):241-254.ABSTRACTSpecialty certification demonstrates knowledge and expertise in an area of nursing practice resulting in significant benefits to nurses, patients, public, and hiring organizations, empowering professional practice, and improving nurse retention and patient outcomes. However, a large majority of nurses working in dialysis have never validated their knowledge and skills through specialty certification. A one-group pre- and post-intervention study was conducted, with a sample group of registered nurses working in dialysis, using an asynchronous peer-to-peer education regardin...

Does a Predialysis Education Program Increase the Number of Pre-emptive Renal Transplantations?
In this study, we investigated the relationship between a predialysis education program (PDEP) for patients and their relatives and pre-emptive RT. Methods: We divided 88 live donor kidney transplant recipients into 2 groups: transplantation without education (non-PDEP group; n = 27), and enrollment in an education program before RT (PDEP group n = 61). Results: Five patients in the non-PDEP group underwent pre-emptive transplantation, versus 26 of the PDEP group. The rate of pre-emptive transplantations was significantly higher among the educated (42.62%) versus the noneducated group (18.51%; P

A Randomized Trial of Heart Failure Disease Management in Skilled Nursing Facilities: Design and Rationale
Conclusions: The SNF-Connect Trial is the first trial of its kind to assess if a HF-DMP will improve outcomes for patients in SNFs. This trial will provide evidence on the effectiveness of HF-DMP to improve outcomes for older frail HF patients undergoing postacute rehabilitation.

The role of peritoneal dialysis in modern renal replacement therapy
Most patients starting dialysis can choose between peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis. There is little evidence proving that one form of dialysis is better than the other; although there may be an early advantage to peritoneal dialysis (PD) in young patients with residual function this effect is short-lived. Technique failure develops after years on PD so dialysis modality will often change during a long dialysis career. Quality of life studies, which must be interpreted carefully, indicate that patients require information about the impact of dialysis on their lifestyle as well as health-related outcomes so that they c...
