The Trends in Health Life Expectancy in Korea according to Age, Gender, Education Level, and Subregion: Using Quality-Adjusted Life Expectancy Method.
Conclusion: We showed that QALE could be easily calculated and be an appropriate measure for tracking the overall population's health level. The results from this study are expected to aid the Ministry of Health of Republic of Korea in setting up a goal for the National Health Plan. PMID: 30923491 [PubMed - in process]

Impact of integrating objective structured clinical examination into academic student assessment: Large-scale experience in a French medical school
This study aimed at investigating the relationships between OSCE grades and current evaluation modalities. MethodsThree-hundred seventy-nine 4th-year students of University-of-Paris Medical School participated to the first large-scale OSCE at this institution, consisting in three OSCE stations (OSCE#1 –3). OSCE#1 and #2 focused on cardiovascular clinical skills and competence, whereas OSCE#3 focused on relational skills while providing explanations before planned cholecystectomy. We investigated correlations of OSCE grades with multiple choice (MCQ)-based written examinations and evaluations of clinical skills and behavi...

Medical education and distrust modulate the response of insular-cingulate network and ventral striatum in pain diagnosis
Healthcare providers often underestimate patients' pain, sometimes even when aware of their reports. This could be the effect of experience reducing sensitivity to others pain, or distrust towards patients' self-evaluations. Across multiple experiments (375 participants), we tested whether senior medical students differed from younger colleagues and lay controls in the way they assess people's pain and take into consideration their feedback. We found that medical training affected the sensitivity to pain faces, an effect shown by the lower ratings and highlighted by a decrease in neural response of the insula and cingulate...

Use of digital teaching resources and predictors of medical student performance during the pandemic: A prospective study
ConclusionsThe association between timely completion of tasks as well as early performance in a module and summative exams might help to identify students at risk and offering help early on. The unexpected gender difference requires further study to determine whether the shift to a digital-only curriculum disadvantages female students.

Designing Infographics: Visual Representations for Enhancing Education, Communication, and Scientific Research
J Korean Med Sci. 2022 Jul 11;37(27):e214. doi: 10.3346/jkms.2022.37.e214.ABSTRACTInfographics are graphic visual representations of educational content, used to deliver complex information, disseminate scientific research, and drive behavioral change. Herein, we review some of the factors pertinent to designing infographics and the potential for automation in the future. To guide high-impact design, it is vital to clearly define the objectives of the infographic and its target audience. Designing an effective infographic necessitates careful consideration of the layout, colors, font, and context. More recently, technical ...
