The Black Box of Patient Education: An Expert Consultation on Patient Education Interventions and Strategies for the Management of Subacromial Pain Syndrome
CONCLUSION: The consultation confirmed and expanded the knowledge from the literature by adding knowledge that emerged from the experts' practical experience. It resulted in the development of preliminary statements on structured patient education interventions and management strategies for SAPS. These emerging statements are, to our knowledge, the first to inform patient education specifically as it relates to the management of SAPS taking into account psychosocial and contextual factors.PMID:37736407 | PMC:PMC10510546 | DOI:10.3138/ptc-2022-0123

Effectiveness of Adaptive Physical Activity combined with Therapeutic Patient Education in stroke survivors at 12 months: a non-randomized parallel group study.
CONCLUSION: APA-TPE is an effective intervention to maintain and improve activities of daily living, reduce falls and recourse to rehabilitation treatments at 12 months. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT: Structured physical activity programs that can be performed also at home, when combined with therapeutic education focused on benefits of physical activity, will encourage stroke survivors to continue exercising. Therefore, it fulfills an essential requirement to the maintenance of lasting health benefits and the prevention of physical and psychological deterioration. Health Care Construction Spending in Arkansas Is Climbing
Spending on health care-related construction projects in Arkansas nearly doubled in 2015 compared with the previous year. One of the top projects in 2015 was Baptist Health of Little Rock’s 111-bed hospital under construction in Conway, which is expected to be open in September. Health care-related projects under construction as of November had a valuation of $312 million compared with $160.6 million at the same time the previous year, according to Arkansas Business’ list of the largest commercial projects that were under construction at the time. That $312 million figure didn’t include several health car...

Development and Implementation of the World Health Organization Emergency Medical Teams: Minimum Technical Standards and Recommendations for Rehabilitation
Conclusion The WHO EMT Initiative aims to improve the professionalization and quality of emergency medical response through improved standardization, coordination and accountability. The rehabilitation standards support these aims, by addressing by integrating delivery of rehabilitation into the acute emergency response capacity of EMTs. Required for EMT verification, the standards fill a significant in the scope and quality of care EMTs have historically provided. The standards also emphasize the importance of continuity of care and long-term functional outcomes by beneficiaries. A need exists for further awareness raisin...

Self-Guided Web-Based Pain Education for People with Musculoskeletal Pain: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Web-based pain education for adults with musculoskeletal pain, as a standalone approach, showed to be better than minimal intervention for pain intensity and disability at short-term, and for pain intensity at intermediate-term. Web-based pain education added to usual care did not provide additional benefits for primary oucomes at intermediate or long-term.IMPACT: Web-based pain education as a standalone intervention provided small improvements in pain intensity and disability in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Scarcely resourced contexts and overburdened health systems should consider this deliver...

Simulation-Based Education in Physical Therapist Education: Perspectives From the Strategic Initiative Panel on Simulation in Physical Therapist Education
Phys Ther. 2022 Oct 6:pzac135. doi: 10.1093/ptj/pzac135. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the summer of 2018, The American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) appointed 9 individuals versed in simulation education to form the Strategic Initiative Panel on Simulation (SIPS) to (1) investigate the use of simulation in physical therapist education, (2) explore the role of simulation in meeting accreditation standards and curriculum elements related to clinical education and interprofessional education, and (3) describe models and best practices for the use of simulation in physical therapist education. Over the 3 yea...

Simulation-Based Education in Physical Therapist Education: A Survey of Current Practice
CONCLUSION: Although SBE is used commonly in physical therapist education, many faculties: (1) do not have training in SBE; (2) do not consistently follow the SOBP; and (3) utilize outcome measures that are not validated. Limited faculty training in SBE and inconsistent inclusion of the SOBP suggests student learning in simulation is not optimized.IMPACT: These results show that, despite increased use of simulation in physical therapist education programs, there is a dearth of faculty trained in SBE and inconsistent use of SOBP. Addressing these deficiencies could help to optimize the benefits of SBE in physical therapist ...
