Balance between asymmetry and abundance in multi-domain DNA-binding proteins may regulate the kinetics of their binding to DNA
This study reveals new insights into the fundamental determi nants of recognition by C2H2-ZFPs of their DNA binding sites in the cellular landscape. The importance of electrostatic asymmetry with respect to binding site recognition by C2H2-ZFPs suggests the possibility that it may also be important in other ZFP systems and reveals a new design feature for zinc finger engineering.

Relationship between melatonin and high-risk pregnancy: A review of investigations published between the years 2010 and 2020.
Abstract The purpose of this review was to search for articles on human studies investigating the relationship between melatonin and high-risk pregnancy. An electronic search was conducted in the MEDLINE and PubMed databases from September 2010 to October 2020. The initial search produced 441 articles in PubMed and 407 in MEDLINE. After sorting the titles and abstracts, and removing duplicates, we had nine articles in PubMed and three in Medline. The results of these studies mainly show that the association between melatonin receptor 1B polymorphisms and gestational diabetes mellitus is the most common physiologic...

NeuroML-DB: Sharing and characterizing data-driven neuroscience models described in NeuroML
by Justas Birgiolas, Vergil Haynes, Padraig Gleeson, Richard C. Gerkin, Suzanne W. Dietrich, Sharon Crook As researchers develop computational models of neural systems with increasing sophistication and scale, it is often the case that fullyde novo model development is impractical and inefficient. Thus arises a critical need to quickly find, evaluate, re-use, and build upon models and model components developed by other researchers. We introduce the NeuroML Database (NeuroML-DB.org), which has been developed to address this need and to complement other model sharing resources. NeuroML-DB stores over 1,500 previously publi...

A computational framework for finding parameter sets associated with chaotic dynamics
In Silico Biol. 2021;14(1-2):41-51. doi: 10.3233/ISB-200476.ABSTRACTMany biological ecosystems exhibit chaotic behavior, demonstrated either analytically using parameter choices in an associated dynamical systems model or empirically through analysis of experimental data. In this paper, we use existing software tools (COPASI, R) to explore dynamical systems and uncover regions with positive Lyapunov exponents where thus chaos exists. We evaluate the ability of the software's optimization algorithms to find these positive values with several dynamical systems used to model biological populations. The algorithms have been ab...
