Danish validation of sniffin' sticks olfactory test for threshold, discrimination, and identification
ConclusionThe original Sniffin' Sticks (Burghart Messtechnik) was not applicable in Denmark. The modification resulted in improvement of familiarity and rate of I, making the test valid for use in Denmark. Furthermore, the study found a large variation in T and D scores between different countries, which should be considered when using these scores to separate hyposmia and anosmia from normosmia. The effectiveness of platelet ‐rich plasma in an anosmia‐induced mice model
ConclusionWe showed that PRP administration has a curative effect on olfactory functions in an anosmia‐induced mice model. However, there is a need for further research before PRP can be considered for use in patients with anosmia in clinical practice. Level of EvidenceNA. Laryngoscope, 2017

Brain volume changes in hyposmic patients before and after olfactory training
ConclusionsOT was associated with an increase in GM volume of the hippocampus and the thalamus, possibly pointing toward a strategy for more effective exploitation of olfactory signals based on a higher degree of attention toward odors and association of memories with olfactory input. Transcutaneous immunization with pneumococcal surface protein A in mice
ConclusionThese results show that TCI with PspA plus CT induces antigen‐specific mucosal and systemic immune responses. This suggests that this method is an effective mucosal immunization strategy for induction of protective pneumococcal‐specific Ab responses in blockade of S. pneumoniae colonization of the nasal cavity. Individualised field testing is a useful tool to evaluate difficult asthma
We report the use of individualised field tests (IFT) to investigate exercise induced symptoms amongst asthmatic children referred to a tertiary respiratory service. Tests were completed by a physiotherapist and paediatrician and included the facility to perform fibre optic laryngoscopy in those with symptoms suggestive of vocal cord dysfunction (VCD).26 assessments were performed (Male 9: Female 17; age 11 - 17 years, 1child of 6 years).7 Were positive for EIB (Decreased FEV1 > 12%, 5-15mins post exercise). 13 had signs of dysfunctional breathing. 5 developed signs of upper airway obstruction due to VCD.1 test revealed...

Early Stage olfactory neuroblastoma and the impact of resecting dura and olfactory bulb
ConclusionMost Kadish A/B ONB tumors have low Hyams grade, unilateral involvement, and favorable survival outcomes. Resection of the dura and olfactory bulb is not oncologically advantageous in patients without skull base involvement who are surgically treated with negative resection margins and cribriform resection. Intranasal immunization with phosphorylcholine suppresses allergic rhinitis in mice
ConclusionsIntranasal administration of PC‐KLH suppressed allergic inflammation in nasal mucosa and antigen‐specific IgE production by downregulating Th2‐type immune response. Intranasal immunization with PC might be useful to prevent AR and upper airway bacterial infection. Level of EvidenceNA Laryngoscope, 2017

Correlations between cystic fibrosis genotype and sinus disease severity in chronic rhinosinusitis
ConclusionHigh‐risk CFTR genotypes are not associated with worse sinonasal disease severity or postoperative symptom control than low‐risk CFTR genotypes after adjusting for confounding factors. Level of EvidenceLevel IV. Laryngoscope, 2017

Teaching frontal sinus anatomy using the frontal sinus masterclass 3 ‐ D conceptualization model
ConclusionObjectively, participants of the FSMC expanded on their ability to recognize cells of the frontal recess on CT scans. Before the class, residents could answer less than half of the answers correctly, and by the end of the class they were answering over two‐thirds of these complex questions correctly. Subjectively, participants reported benefit from the course and felt they would be better surgeons. Level of EvidenceNA. Laryngoscope, 2017

Clinical trials in rhinosinusitis: Identifying areas for improvement
ConclusionsThis analysis is the first to characterize rhinosinusitis clinical trials, highlighting the over‐representation of certain drugs and demonstrating an increased focus on clinical trials employing surgical intervention.
