Allergen immunotherapy effectively reduces the risk of exacerbations and lower respiratory tract infections in both seasonal and perennial allergic asthma: a nationwide epidemiological study
Conclusion AIT effectively reduced the risk of exacerbations and lower respiratory tract infections in both seasonal and perennial allergic asthma. Perennial allergy is seemingly not a stronger risk factor for respiratory infections and exacerbations than seasonal allergy.

Prevalence and Impact of Asthma and Allergy on Daily Life, Health Outcomes and Use of Healthcare Services in Children: A Population-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of atopic disease and its impact on daily life and healthcare utilization call for an integrated healthcare system focused on children and caregivers' needs with continuity of care across education and healthcare settings.PMID:37277255 | DOI:10.1016/j.arbres.2023.05.005

Patients with allergic and eosinophilic asthma in the German severe asthma registry
Targeted treatment strategies for asthma require a precise diagnosis of phenotypes. 308 adult patients (age mean±SD: 50.3±13.5yrs) with severe asthma from the German Severe Asthma Registry (www.german-asthma-net.de) were evaluated based on history of allergy symptoms, results of skin prick tests, total/specific IgE, and blood cell differentials. 121 patients (39%) showed typical signs of allergic asthma including allergic symptoms and a positive skin prick test and/or specific IgE with no elevated blood eosinophils (median total IgE: 222 (range 4-4023) IU/ml, eosinophils: 128 (0-295)/µl, FeNO: 23 (7-300...

Effects on asthma and respiratory allergy of Climate change and air pollution
Abstract The major changes to our world are those involving the atmosphere and the climate, including global warming induced by anthropogenic factors, with impact on the biosphere and human environment. Studies on the effects of climate changes on respiratory allergy are still lacking and current knowledge is provided by epidemiological and experimental studies on the relationship between allergic respiratory diseases, asthma and environmental factors, like meteorological variables, airborne allergens and air pollution. Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated that urbanization, high levels of vehicle em...

Assessment of pet exposure by self-report in epidemiological studies of allergy and asthma: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: In epidemiological studies, the ascertainment of pet exposure through questionnaires appears to vary greatly. This variation might partly explain the inconsistent and contradictory results of the effects of pet exposure on the development of allergy and asthma. Consumption of asthma and allergy drugs in Finland
Conclusions: The steady growth in the consumption of inhaled corticosteroids and montelukast is likely to reflect increasing number of asthma patients. However, the emphasis of drug cost growth is on the controller medications for asthma and antihistamines. This is in accordance with the Finnish Allergy Program which has a focus in the more severe asthma and allergen tolerance.

Clinical characteristics of seasonal rhinitis and co-existence with asthma
Discussion: The co-existence of SAR and asthma in our study was 36%. The patients with SAR who are at high risk for developing asthma should be investigated and suggested recommendations for preventable risk factors.

Ferulic acid supresses Th2 immune response and prevents remodeling in ovalbumin-induced pulmonary allergy associated with inhibition of epithelial-derived cytokines
Conclusions In this study it was demonstrated for the first time that ferulic acid treatment is able to suppress one of the main features of the airway remodeling, indicated by reduction of mucus production, besides the Th2 pathogenic response on ovalbumin-induced pulmonary allergy. Taken together, results shows that the immunopathological mechanism underlying these effects is linked to a reduction of the epithelial-derived chemokines and cytokines, suggesting that ferulic acid may be useful as a potential therapeutic agent for asthma.

Pollen food allergy syndrome.
Abstract Pollen food allergy syndrome, is a type I cross-reaction mediated by IgE antibodies between an aeroallergen and a plant-derived antigen. Main symptoms are typically consist of localized oral symptoms such as numbness of the lip or mouth, itching, tingling and swelling of lips, tongue, palate and pharynx without systemic symptoms. Patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis, asthma or both more frequently experience pollen food allergy syndrome. Because most patients have mild symptoms and the improvement by avoiding food, the true incidence is unknown. In this review, we aimed to discuss characteristics, dia...

IgE sensitization to Aspergillus fumigatus among children in allergological centre of Saratov
Conclusions: IgE sensitization to Af increases the risk of rhinosinusitis in children with allergic rhinitis, and often combined with allergen-induced inflammation in epidermal allergy.

Providing an Antibiotic Allergy Service
Approximately 10% of patients report an allergy to ≥1 antibiotics, most commonly penicillins. Having a label of penicillin allergy has important health consequences for the individual, as well as health and economic impact at the population level. Despite this, only a minority of patients have the opportunity to have suspected antibiotic allergies confirmed. Busy clinicians seldom have time to explore the history of suspected antibiotic allergies in detail; an important role of the antibiotic allergy service is to do just this, including gathering contemporaneous notes, charts, and correspondence where necessary. The lik...
