Efficacy of Dyson air purifier on asthma control: a single-center, investigator-led, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
CONCLUSION: The Dyson air purifier significantly improved air quality. However, there were no significant improvements in asthma control, quality of life or measures of lung function in the intervention group compared to the control group despite improvements in indoor air quality. Larger, extended studies are required to confirm or refute these findings, especially given that the Covid-19 pandemic prevented the procurement of detailed objective data.PMID:36288782 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.10.010

Home monitoring & telehealth education for asthma disease management
Asthma disease management requires self-management skills and personalized clinical interventions. Allergy and Asthma Network (AAN) collaborated with CurieAI and VitalFlo to monitor patient symptoms and spirometry as part of a personalized telehealth asthma education program.

Sex differences of small airway function and FeNO in patients with mild asthma
CONCLUSION: In mild asthma patients, female patients have worse SAF, lower FeNO levels, and a more prominent decline trend of those parameters with age than males. Sex-specific cut-off values should be considered when SAF parameters (FEF 25%-75%, FEF 50%), alone or combined with FeNO, are used to predict positive MCT in asthma diagnosis.PMID:36400352 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.11.010

Influence of Age on Effort Required to Complete Spirometry in Children and Adolescents
Allergy Asthma Immunol Res. 2022 Nov;14(6):752-759. doi: 10.4168/aair.2022.14.6.752.ABSTRACTAlthough effort required to complete spirometry is known to differ by age, no studies have addressed this issue. The present study aimed to identify the difference in the effort required to complete spirometry by age in children and adolescents. Data from 707 children (mean age, 10.2 years; range, 4-25 years) from 6 medical centers were analyzed. In addition to demographics, we obtained information on the time required for as well as the number of demonstrations and spirometry demonstrations and trials from the patients' electronic ...
