Treating Severe Adverse Drug Reactions Caused by Ischemic Optic Neuropathy with Ginkgo Biloba Extract Injection: A Case Report
CONCLUSIONS: This case underscores the need for vigilance when prescribing ginkgo biloba extract, particularly in middle-aged and elderly patients. Despite no previous history of allergies and adherence to the prescribed dosage, severe ADR can still occur. Close monitoring of patients within the first 30 minutes of medication administration is crucial. Furthermore, strict adherence to drug instructions, proper TCM syndrome differentiation, appropriate choice of infusion solvents, and strict control of drip rates should be considered to enhance patient safety. Other factors such as patient age, allergy history, and initial ...

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis: A severe allergic eye disease with remodeling changes
Abstract Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is an unusually severe sight‐threatening allergic eye disease, occurring mainly in children. Conventional therapy for allergic conjunctivitis is generally not adequate for VKC. Pediatricians and allergists are often not familiar with the severe clinical symptoms and signs of VKC. As untreated VKC can lead to permanent visual loss, pediatric allergists should be aware of the management and therapeutic options for this disease to allow patients to enter clinical remission with the least side effects and sequelae. Children with VKC present with severe ocular symptoms, that is, seve...

Mycophenolate mofetil in multiple sclerosis: a multicentre retrospective study on 344 patients
Objectives Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is an immunosuppressive agent, sometimes used as a disease-modifying therapy for multiple sclerosis (MS). Several studies have reported the relative safety of this treatment but, to date, its efficacy has rarely been described. We performed a retrospective study to assess the safety and efficacy of MMF in patients with MS. Methodology Three French MS centres included all of their patients treated by MMF. The main outcome criterion was annualised relapse rate (ARR) in the 1 year period after onset of MMF compared with the 1 year control period. Treatment with another immunosuppressive...
