A Broad Safety Assessment of the Recombinant Herpes Zoster Vaccine
Am J Epidemiol. 2022 Feb 12:kwac030. doi: 10.1093/aje/kwac030. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe recombinant herpes zoster vaccine (RZV), approved as a 2-dose series in the U.S. in October 2017, has proven highly effective and generally safe. However, a small risk of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) after vaccination was identified post-approval, and questions remain about other possible adverse events. This data-mining study assessed RZV safety in the U.S. using the self-controlled tree-temporal scan statistic, scanning data on thousands of diagnoses recorded during follow-up to detect any statistically unusual temporal clu...

Dupilumab-induced peripheral neuropathy in a patient with severe asthma
The anti –interleukin (IL)-4 receptor, an antibody dupilumab is used in the treatment of severe asthma, atopic dermatitis, and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. Common adverse events reportedly include injection site reactions, conjunctivitis, headache, and oral herpes. Dr Lee et al1 provided the f irst reported case of very severe chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy that developed 1.5 years after the initiation of dupilumab treatment for atopic dermatitis. Similarly, we have encountered a case of peripheral neuropathy in a patient with severe asthma being treated with du pilumab and wish to...

Mikrobiyol Bul. 2022 Apr;56(2):371-376. doi: 10.5578/mb.20229816.ABSTRACTHerpes simplex virus (HSV) is a sporadic viral encephalitis agent that causes high mortality and morbidity, accompanied by neurological dysfunction findings. Acyclovir is the only antiviral treatment option that should be initiated in all patients with suspected encephalitis as soon as possible. Acyclovir is rarely possible to cause allergic reactions. It may occur in a wide range from generalized cutaneous rash to Stevens-Johnson syndrome. A case of HSV-1 encephalitis who had no treatment option other than intravenous acyclovir and was successfully t...
