Hematopoietic 12/15-lipoxygenase activity negatively contributes to fungal-associated allergic asthma
Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2023 May 30. doi: 10.1152/ajplung.00090.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAsthma is one of the most common non-communicable diseases in the world. Approximately 30% of severe cases are associated with fungal sensitization, often associated with allergy to the opportunistic mold Aspergillus fumigatus. Leukotrienes, immunopathogenic mediators derived from the metabolism of arachidonic acid (AA) by 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), are often elevated in severe asthma. As such, these mediators are FDA-approved therapeutic targets of the anti-asthmatic drugs Zileuton®/Zyflo® and Singulair®/Montelu...

Clinico-demographic, radiological and immunological profile of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis in a tertiary care institute of east India.
Conclusion: There was no significant association between lung function abnormalities and eosinophil count. ABPA-S was the most common finding among ABPA patients. High eosinophil count is associated with high incidence of bronchiectasis and hyper attenuated mucus (HAM) although severity of bronchiectasis is not directly related to higher peripheral eosinophil count. There may be some correlation between peripheral eosinophil count and total IgE but no significant correlation with aspergillus specific IgE.

The epidemiology of sensitization to perennial aeroallergens in adult patients with severe asthma in Belgium. The Belgian IgE (BEIgE) study
Conclusions: Although assessment of the clinical relevance of the sensitizations was not an aim of the study, our results indicate an underestimation in the detection of sensitizations to PAs in the SA population studied. The obtained ranking list of PAs will optimize the diagnostic and therapeutic management of SA patients.

Progress and challenges in fungal lung disease in cystic fibrosis
Purpose of review This review is an overview of the recent progress made for the diagnosis and understanding of fungal lung disease in people with cystic fibrosis (CF), with a focus on Aspergillus fumigatus, the most common filamentous fungus in the CF airway. Currently, the longstanding question of the clinical significance of Aspergillus fumigatus and other fungi in CF respiratory cultures, in the absence of allergy, remains. Clinical criteria and biomarkers are needed to classify fungal lung disease and determine who may warrant therapy. Recent findings Several retrospective and prospective studies have descr...

Severe asthma concomitant with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and non-steroid exacerbated respiratory disease (N-ERD) successfully treated with mepolizumab: A case report
Tuberk Toraks. 2022 Jun;70(2):215-219. doi: 10.5578/tt.20229815.ABSTRACTAllergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a lung disease characterized by a hypersensitivity reaction to Aspergillus fumigatus. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is characterized by increased serum IgE levels, peripheral blood eosinophilia and radiographic pulmonary infiltrates, central bronchiectasis, and mucus plugs. Mepolizumab, a monoclonal interleukin (IL)-5 antibody, reduces eosinophilic inflammation and improves symptom control in severe eosinophilic asthma. A 74-year-old male patient arrived at our allergy outpatient clinic compla...
