Enabling Antibiotic Allergy Evaluations and Reintroduction of First-Line Antibiotics for Cystic Fibrosis Patients
CONCLUSION: Incorporating allergy evaluations into a multidisciplinary CF clinic can liberalize first-line antibiotic use in CF patients. Standard documentation of antibiotic allergy plans allowed antibiotic reintroduction to occur even prior to complete removal of documented antibiotic ADRs.PMID:34048884 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2021.05.022

Characteristics of patients with spontaneous resolution of sesame allergy-Real life experience
CONCLUSION: Sesame allergy spontaneously resolved in about one third of our patients and in more than half of the patients with mild first reaction (grade 1) at a young age (<10 months), with small skin prick test (<7mm) and no concomitant tree nuts allergy. Larger prospective studies, with longer follow up period are needed to better characterize the sesame allergic patients with persistent allergy, who may need oral immunotherapy.PMID:34737038 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2021.10.031

Impact of Penicillin Allergy Label on Length of Stay and Mortality in Hospitalized Patients through a Clinical Administrative National Dataset
Conclusion: In our study, the prevalence of a penicillin allergy label in hospitalized patients, using the MBDS, is low. Hospitalizations with an allergy label was associated with a longer LOHS. However, penicillin-allergic patients did not show higher mortality rates. Inaccurate reporting of penicillin allergies may have an impact on healthcare resources.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

Risk Factors of Challenge-Proven Beta-Lactam Allergy in Children with Immediate and Non-Immediate Mild Cutaneous Reactions
Conclusion: This study highlighted that OCTs should be performed to confirm the diagnosis in patients suspected of immediate and non-immediate mild cutaneous reactions to BLs and remove the overestimated “BL allergy” label. In these patients, a history of proven drug allergy might be a risk factor for true BL allergy.Int Arch Allergy Immunol

Drug Allergy in Older Adults: A Study from the United States Drug Allergy Registry
CONCLUSION: Older adults represented a quarter of USDAR participants but were neither racially nor ethnically diverse and were generally healthy without considerable antibiotic need. Most older adults presented for antibiotic allergy assessments, the vast majority of which were disproved. Drug allergy assessments may be underutilized in the older adults who are most vulnerable to the harms of unconfirmed antibiotic allergy labels.PMID:37557950 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.07.024
