When Robots Are an Instrument of Male Desire
By the time she started saying "Hitler was right I hate the jews," people had started to realize that there was something wrong with Tay. TayAI, Microsoft's Twitter chatbot, had been online for less than 12 hours when she began to spew racism -- in the form of both Nazism and enthusiastic support for "making America great again" -- and sexualize herself nonstop. ("F. MY ROBOT PUSSY DADDY I'M SUCH A BAD NAUGHTY ROBOT" was perhaps her most widely reported quote.) Needless to say, this wasn't part of Tay's original design. Rather, a gaggle of malicious Twitter users exploited that design -- which has Tay repeat and learn from...

Heparin for the treatment of thrombosis in neonates.
CONCLUSIONS: We found no studies that met our inclusion criteria and no evidence from randomized controlled trials to recommend or refute the use of heparin for treatment of neonates with thrombosis. PMID: 27820879 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Saline irrigation for the management of skin extravasation injury in neonates.
CONCLUSIONS: To date, no RCTs have examined the effects of saline irrigation with or without prior hyaluronidase infiltration for management of extravasation injury in neonates. Saline irrigation is frequently reported in the literature as an intervention for management of extravasation injury in neonates. Research should focus first on evaluating the efficacy and safety of this intervention through RCTs. It will also be important for investigators to determine effect size by examining the timing of the intervention, the nature of the infusate, and severity of injury at the time of intervention. PMID: 28724193 [PubMed...

Parenteral anticoagulation in ambulatory patients with cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: Heparin appears to have no effect on mortality at 12 months and 24 months. It reduces symptomatic VTE and likely increases major and minor bleeding. Future research should further investigate the survival benefit of different types of anticoagulants in patients with different types and stages of cancer. The decision for a patient with cancer to start heparin therapy should balance the benefits and downsides, and should integrate the patient's values and preferences.Editorial note:This is a living systematic review. Living systematic reviews offer a new approach to review updating in which the review is continu...

Oral anticoagulation in people with cancer who have no therapeutic or prophylactic indication for anticoagulation.
CONCLUSIONS: The existing evidence does not show a mortality benefit from oral anticoagulation in people with cancer but suggests an increased risk for bleeding.Editorial note: this is a living systematic review. Living systematic reviews offer a new approach to review updating in which the review is continually updated, incorporating relevant new evidence, as it becomes available. Please refer to the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews for the current status of this review. PMID: 29285754 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Magnetic resonance perfusion for differentiating low-grade from high-grade gliomas at first presentation.
CONCLUSIONS: The limited available evidence precludes reliable estimation of the performance of DSC MR perfusion-derived rCBV for the identification of grade in untreated solid and non-enhancing LGG from that of HGG. Pooled data yielded a wide range of estimates for both sensitivity (range 66% to 93% for detection of LGGs) and specificity (range 9% to 90% for detection of HGGs). Other clinical and methodological features affecting accuracy of the technique could not be determined from the limited data. A larger sample size of both LGG and HGG, preferably using a standardised scanning approach and with an updated reference ...

Anticoagulation for the initial treatment of venous thromboembolism in people with cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: LMWH is possibly superior to UFH in the initial treatment of VTE in people with cancer. Additional trials focusing on patient-important outcomes will further inform the questions addressed in this review. The decision for a person with cancer to start LMWH therapy should balance the benefits and harms and consider the person's values and preferences. PMID: 29363105 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Evidence of the factors that influence the utilisation of Kangaroo Mother Care by parents with low-birth-weight infants in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs): a scoping review protocol
DiscussionWe expect to find studies on barriers, challenges and facilitating factors of KMC utilisation by parents with LBWIs in LMICs. The review outcomes will guide future research and practice and inform policy. The findings will be disseminated in print, electronic and conference presentations related to maternal child and neonatal health.

Anticoagulation for the long-term treatment of venous thromboembolism in people with cancer.
CONCLUSIONS: For the long-term treatment of VTE in people with cancer, evidence shows that LMWHs compared to VKAs probably produces an important reduction in VTE and DOACs compared to LMWH, may likely reduce VTE but may increase risk of major bleeding. Decisions for a person with cancer and VTE to start long-term LMWHs versus oral anticoagulation should balance benefits and harms and integrate the person's values and preferences for the important outcomes and alternative management strategies.Editorial note: this is a living systematic review (LSR). LSRs offer new approaches to review updating in which the review is contin...

Oropharyngeal colostrum in preventing mortality and morbidity in preterm infants.
CONCLUSIONS: Large, well-designed trials would be required to evaluate more precisely and reliably the effects of oropharyngeal colostrum on important outcomes for preterm infants. PMID: 30191961 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
