The association of diet-dependent acid load with colorectal cancer risk: a case-control study in Korea
We examined whether colorectal carcinogenesis is attributable to a diet with a high acid load. We recruited a total of 923 CRC cases and 1846 controls at the National Cancer Center in Korea for inclusion in a case-control study. We collected information on nutrient intake and specific clinical parameters of CRC by using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire and medical records, respectively. Potential renal acid load (PRAL) and net endogenous acid production (NEAP) were used to estimate diet-dependent acid load. We used an unconditional logistic regression model to analyse the association. Dietary acid load score...

Self-managed dietary changes and functional gut symptoms in endometriosis: A qualitative interview study
CONCLUSION: Overall, participants demonstrated some patterns of restrictive eating behaviour and wanted more professional support to help manage their endometriosis-related gut symptoms. This highlights the need for dietitians to be involved in endometriosis care to help alleviate gut symptoms, whilst ensuring nutritional adequacy and offering weight management support where required.PMID:37575367 | PMC:PMC10413417 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100219

Long-term regulation of fat sensing in rainbow trout ( < em > Oncorhynchus mykiss < /em > ) fed a vegetable diet from the first feeding: focus on free fatty acid receptors and their signaling
This study is the first to support that changes in growth performance and food intake of RT fed a V diet could be due to the influence of differences in nutrient sensing and a decrease in hedonic sensation. We revealed that RT have similar fat-detection mechanisms as mammals.PMID:37469170 | DOI:10.1017/S0007114523001599

Food consumption and nutrient intake in Finnish preschool children according to parental educational level
We examined the association between parental educational level (PEL) and children's food consumption and nutrient intake in a sample of Finnish 3- to 6-year-old preschoolers (n=811). The data were obtained from the cross-sectional DAGIS project, conducted in eight municipalities in Finland during 2015-2016. The food consumption and nutrient intake were assessed using food records. The highest educational level of the family was used as the indicator of socioeconomic status. Differences in diet by PEL were analysed using a hierarchical linear model adjusted for energy intake. Compared to high PEL, low PEL was associated wit...

Does fruit and vegetable consumption impact mental health? systematic review and meta-analyses of published controlled intervention studies
Br J Nutr. 2023 Jun 30:1-33. doi: 10.1017/S0007114523001423. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAssociations between fruit and vegetable (FV) consumption and mental health are suggested, largely from observational studies. This systematic review aimed to identify and summarize all published controlled intervention studies investigating the effects of FV consumption on mental health in adults. Four academic databases (Medline, PsychInfo, Pubmed, Web of Science) were searched on 16.09.22, over all years, for studies that: used an intervention design; included fruit and/or vegetable consumption; included an appropriate non-FV-cons...
