Relation among Psychopathological Symptoms, Neuropsychological Domains, and Functional Disability in Subacute Poststroke Rehabilitation
Neuropsychiatric disorders are commonly observed in patients following a stroke. Among 30%-60% of poststroke patients suffer from depression and anxiety (18%-25%). Some authors suggest an association between psychological symptoms and lesions in specific brain areas. In particular, lesions in left frontal cortex and left basal ganglia are frequently associated with poststroke depression and with comorbidity of anxiety and depression, whereas isolated anxiety symptoms are frequently observed after right hemispheric lesions.

Is There Equipoise Regarding the Optimal Medical Treatment of Patients with Asymptomatic White Matter Hyperintensities?
Background: White matter hyperintensity (WMH) is a common manifestation of chronic ischemic microvascular disease that heralds greater risk of functional disability, stroke, and dementia. SPRINT MIND recently reported that intensive blood pressure reduction resulted in lower rates of mild cognitive impairment and WMH progression, suggesting that medical interventions could have a measurable impact on WMH. We conducted an anonymous survey of providers in the NINDS StrokeNet to better understand neurologist attitudes about asymptomatic WMH.

White Matter Lesion Severity is Associated with Intraventricular Hemorrhage in Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Challenges and Improvements of Developing an Ischemia Mouse Model Through Bilateral Common Carotid Artery Occlusion
Brain ischemia is one of the principal causes of death and disability worldwide in which prevention or an effective treatment does not exist. In order to develop successful treatments, an adequate and useful ischemia model is essential. Transient global cerebral ischemia is one of the most interesting pathological conditions in stroke studies because of the observed degeneration of forebrain and delayed neuronal cell death in selective vulnerable regions such as hippocampus. Predicting hemorrhagic transformation in patients not submitted to reperfusion therapies
Well studied in patients with ischemic stroke after reperfusion therapies (RT), hemorrhagic transformation (HT) is also common in patients not treated with RT and can lead to disability even in initially asymptomatic cases. The best predictors of HT in patients not treated with RT are not well established. Therefore, we aimed to identify predictors of HT in patients not submitted to RT and create a user-friendly predictive score (PROpHET).
