Atrial fibrillation detected by continuous ECG monitoring using implantable loop recorder to prevent stroke in individuals at risk (The LOOP study): Rationale and design of a large randomized controlled trial
Conclusion The LOOP study will evaluate health benefits and cost-effectiveness of ILR as a screening tool for AF to prevent stroke in patients at risk. Secondary objectives include identification of risk factors for the development of AF and characterization of arrhythmias in the population. The trial holds the potential to influence the future of stroke prevention.

Stroke of Known Cause and Underlying Atrial Fibrillation (STROKE-AF) Randomized Trial: Design and Rationale
Conclusion This trial will provide information on the value of ICMs to detect subclinical AF in patients with stroke presumed due to large vessel atherosclerosis or small vessel disease, which will have implications for guiding treatment with oral anticoagulation for secondary stroke prevention.

Burden, timing, and relationship of cardiovascular hospitalization to mortality among Medicare beneficiaries with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation
Conclusions: Cardiovascular hospitalization is common in the first year after AF diagnosis. Atrial fibrillation, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and stroke/transient ischemic attack account for half of primary hospitalization diagnosis. Cardiovascular hospitalization is independently associated with mortality, irrespective of time from diagnosis to first hospitalization, and represents a critical inflection point in survival trajectory. Randomized placebo controlled trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of single low dose intracoronary insulin like growth factor following percutaneous coronary intervention in acute myocardial infarction (RESUS-AMI)
Conclusion In this pilot trial, low dose IGF1, given after optimal mechanical reperfusion in STEMI, is safe but does not improve LVEF. However, there is a signal for a dose dependent benefit on post MI remodeling that may warrant further study.

African American race but not genome-wide ancestry is negatively associated with atrial fibrillation among postmenopausal women in the Women's Health Initiative
Conclusion: African American race is significantly and inversely correlated with AF in postmenopausal women. The etiology of this association remains unclear and may be related to unidentified environmental differences. Larger studies are necessary to identify genetic determinants of AF in African Americans.

Prevalence and Outcome of Thrombotic and Embolic Complications in Adults after Fontan Operation
Conclusions TEC was not uncommon; risk factors for TEC were APC and atrial arrhythmias. Most patients were treated successfully with warfarin alone. A second TEC occurred in most patients whose anticoagulation was discontinued because of bleeding events.
