The great obstetrical syndromes and the placenta
BJOG. 2023 Aug 2. doi: 10.1111/1471-0528.17613. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough historically pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, abruption, fetal growth restriction and stillbirth have been viewed as clinically distinct entities, a growing body of literature has demonstrated that the placenta and its development is the root cause of many cases of these conditions. This has led to the term 'the great obstetrical syndromes' being coined to reflect this common origin. Massive platelet-rich thrombus formation in small pulmonary vessels in amniotic fluid embolism: an autopsy study
CONCLUSIONS: Amniotic fluid may induce distinct thrombus formation in the uterus and lung. Pulmonary and uterine thrombi formation may contribute to cardiorespiratory collapse and/or consumptive coagulopathy in AFE.PMID:37184040 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17532

Medically Attended Acute Adverse Events in Pregnant People After Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Booster Vaccination
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 May 11. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005241. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this multisite, observational, matched cohort study of more than 80,000 pregnant people, receipt of an mRNA monovalent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) booster vaccination in pregnancy was not associated with increased risk for thrombocytopenia, myocarditis, venous thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, or other serious adverse events within 21 or 42 days after booster vaccination. The mRNA monovalent COVID-19 booster in pregnancy was associated with an increased risk for medically attended malaise or fatigue within 7 days of vac...

Systemic Progestins and Progestin-Releasing Intrauterine Device Therapy for Premenopausal Patients With Endometrial Intraepithelial Neoplasia
CONCLUSION: The rate of conservative treatment with progestins in premenopausal individuals with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia has increased over time, and among progestin users, progestin-releasing IUD use is increasing. Progestin-releasing IUD use may be associated with a lower rate of hysterectomy and a similar rate of VTE compared with oral progestin therapy.PMID:37023446 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005124
