Impact of prior bariatric surgery on outcomes of hospitalized patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a propensity score-matched analysis of the U.S. nationwide inpatient sample
CONCLUSIONS: Prior bariatric surgery is associated with favorable in-hospital outcomes in hospitalized patients with SLE and decreased likelihood for several SLE-related complications.PMID:37735043 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.06.006

Acute ischemic stroke: The role of emergency carotid endarterectomy in isolated extracranial internal carotid artery occlusion
CONCLUSIONS: Emergency CEA in isolated eICA occlusion has proved to be a safe and effective treatment option in selected patients. CT perfusion, imaging the ischemic penumbra and quantifying the tissue suitable for reperfusion, offers a valid support in the diagnostic-therapeutic workup. Indeed, we can infer that the area of the ischemic penumbra is directly proportional to the margin of clinical improvement after revascularization, supposing that the appropriate intervention timing is respect.PMID:37594376 | DOI:10.1177/17085381231192712

Assessment of Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair Using Relay Proximal Scallop: Results of a French Prospective Multicentre Study
CONCLUSION: One year outcomes showed that the Relay proximal scallop stent graft is an acceptable answer to aortic thoracic disease to deal with short proximal landing zones.PMID:37567339 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.08.002

Stroke-related risk factors during pregnancy in women who underwent metabolic and bariatric surgery compared with women who have not undergone metabolic and bariatric surgery
CONCLUSIONS: MBS helps women lose weight and decrease the incidence of some pregnancy-related risk factors for stroke. However, there is a notable racial health disparity.PMID:37150625 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.03.017

Custom-Made Candy-Plug for Distal False Lumen Occlusion in Aortic Dissection: International Experience
CONCLUSION: This international CP technique experience confirmed its feasibility and low mortality and morbidity. Aortic remodelling and false lumen thrombosis rates were high and support the concept of distal FL occlusion in AD using the CP technique.PMID:36958480 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.03.020

The results of thrombectomy from the arteries of the lower extremities in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant with different severity of respiratory failure
CONCLUSION: In patients infected with COVID-19 and on artificial lung ventilation, a more aggressive course of the disease is noted, expressed in an increase in laboratory parameters (C-reactive protein, ferritin, interleukin-6, and D-dimer) of the degree of pneumonia (CT-4 in overwhelming number) and localization of thrombosis of the arteries of the lower extremities, mainly in the tibial arteries.PMID:36867526 | DOI:10.1177/17085381231160933

Use of Secondary Iliac Branch Devices after Previous Endovascular Abdominal and Thoraco-Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair < sup > † < /sup >
CONCLUSION: Secondary IBD after EVAR is a safe and effective procedure with high technical success and low complication rates. The technique of choice to revascularise the IIA seems to not affect early and follow up results. Long term durability of IBD repair is acceptable with low rates of IIA re-interventions.PMID:36707020 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.033

Low-Dose Heparin Infusion as Venous Thromboembolism Chemoprophylaxis in Patients With Blunt Cerebrovascular Injury
Blunt cerebrovascular injury (BCVI) can result in devastating stroke. Because of operative inaccessibility, the most common treatment for BCVI is aspirin or a low-dose systemic heparin infusion. While it is assumed that low dose heparin infusion imparts venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis, this has not been evaluated in the BCVI population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate VTE rates in patients receiving low-dose heparin infusion as treatment for BCVI.
