Clopidogrel Use Is Associated With an Increased Prevalence of Cerebral Microbleeds in a Stroke-Free Population: The Rotterdam Study Stroke
Conclusions In stroke-free individuals, clopidogrel use was associated with a higher prevalence and higher number of CMBs. Whether this association is causal requires confirmation in prospective studies, especially given the small number of participants taking clopidogrel and the possibility of residual confounding in this study.

Interferon-{beta} Modulates Inflammatory Response in Cerebral Ischemia Stroke
Conclusions Our results demonstrate that IFNβ exerts a protective effect against ischemic stroke through its anti-inflammatory properties and suggest that IFNβ is a potential therapeutic agent, targeting the reperfusion damage subsequent to the treatment with tissue plasminogen activator.

Intravenous Thrombolysis for Acute Ischemic Stroke in Patients Receiving Antiplatelet Therapy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of 19 Studies Stroke
Conclusions Patients with acute ischemic stroke receiving long-term antiplatelet medications were associated with greater risks of developing symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after systemic thrombolysis. However, the overall independent association between prestroke antiplatelet therapy and unfavorable outcomes or mortality was insignificant.

MKEY, a Peptide Inhibitor of CXCL4-CCL5 Heterodimer Formation, Protects Against Stroke in Mice Stroke
ConclusionsMKEY injection protects against stroke‐induced brain injury, probably by inhibiting MoMΦ‐mediated neuroinflammation.

Hepatic Ketogenesis Induced by Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion in Mice Stroke
ConclusionsWe conclude that brain ischemia induces the formation of β‐hydroxybutyrate (ketogenesis) in the liver and the consumption of β‐hydroxybutyrate in the brain. This effect seems to be mediated by β‐adrenergic receptors.

Systolic Blood Pressure Within 24 Hours After Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke Correlates With Outcome Stroke
ConclusionsHigher peak values of systolic blood pressure independently correlated with worse 90‐day modified Rankin scale and a higher rate of hemorrhagic complications. Further prospective studies are warranted to identify whether systolic blood pressure is a therapeutic target to improve outcomes.

Comparative Effectiveness of Interventions for Stroke Prevention in Atrial Fibrillation: A Network Meta-Analysis Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology
Conclusions The entire spectrum of therapy to prevent thromboembolism in nonvalvular AF significantly reduced stroke/systemic embolism events and mortality.

Ischemic Stroke Risk After Acute Coronary Syndrome Stroke
Conclusions Non-STEMI and STEMI confer an equally increased risk of IS. Studies exploring IS mechanisms in cardiac patients are needed to improve and tailor stroke prevention strategies.

Gadolinium Enhancement in Intracranial Atherosclerotic Plaque and Ischemic Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Stroke
Conclusions Intracranial plaque enhancement on high-resolution vessel wall MRI is strongly associated with ischemic stroke. Evaluation for plaque enhancement on MRI may be a useful test to improve diagnostic yield in patients with ischemic strokes of undetermined etiology.

Ischemic Stroke Risk After Acute Coronary Syndrome Stroke
BackgroundPrior studies show an increased risk of ischemic stroke (IS) after myocardial infarction; however, there is limited evidence on long‐term risk and whether it is directly related to cardiac injury. We hypothesized that the risk of IS after acute coronary syndrome is significantly higher if there is evidence of cardiac injury, such as ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or non‐STEMI, than when there is no evidence of cardiac injury, such as in unstable angina. Methods and ResultsAdministrative claims data were obtained from all emergency department encounters and hospitalizations at California's...

Natural History and Prognostic Value of Corticospinal Tract Wallerian Degeneration in Intracerebral Hemorrhage Stroke
Conclusions Wallerian degeneration along the CST is common in spontaneous supratentorial ICH, particularly in deep ICH. It can be detected 1 week after ICH on DWI and progresses rostrocaudally along the CST over time. The presence of CST-WD is associated with poor motor and functional recovery after ICH.

Circulating Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Subclinical Brain Abnormalities on MRI in Older Adults: The Cardiovascular Health Study Stroke
Conclusions Among older adults, higher phospholipid long-chain omega-3 PUFA content was associated with lower prevalence of subclinical infarcts and better white matter grade on MRI. Our results support the beneficial effects of fish consumption, the major source of long-chain omega-3 PUFAs, on brain health in later life. The role of plant-derived alpha-linolenic acid in brain health requires further investigation.

Accuracy of ICD-9-CM Codes by Hospital Characteristics and Stroke Severity: Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program Health Services and Outcomes Research
Conclusions We identified disagreements in stroke/TIA coding by hospital characteristics and stroke severity, particularly for milder ischemic strokes. Such systematic variations in ICD-9-CM coding practices can affect stroke case identification in epidemiological studies and may have implications for hospital-level quality metrics.

Risk of Recurrent Stroke and Death After First Stroke in Long-Distance Ski Race Participants Epidemiology
Conclusions This large cohort study supports the hypothesis that patients with a stroke and with prior regular physical activity have a lower risk of death, while their risk for recurrent stroke is similar to that of nonskiers. The skiers had a higher incidence of atrial fibrillation, but still no increased risk of recurring stroke.
