Does stroke etiology influence outcome in the posterior circulation? An analysis of 107 consecutive acute basilar occlusion thrombectomies
CONCLUSIONS: In the current study, demographic and clinical results for acute BAO showed that compared with intrinsic disease, thromboembolic disease is a more common mechanism of acute BAO, with 78% of patients undergoing thrombectomy alone. However, there was no significant difference in revascularization and outcome results between patients with embolic disease and those with intrinsic disease.PMID:34198247 | DOI:10.3171/2021.4.FOCUS2189

Prevalence of Aortic Plaques in Cryptogenic Ischemic Stroke: Correlation to Vascular Risk Factors and Future Events
Conclusions: Aortic plaques are an under-recognized cause of cryptogenic stroke. The significant risk factors in aortic plaque group highlight the importance of aggressive risk factor control for secondary stroke prevention.

P-026 Extracellular vesicle neurotrophin expression in plasma collected during mechanical thrombectomy from patients with emergent large vessel stroke
DiscussionThese data suggest that EV proBDNF/BDNF levels can reflect vascular changes that lead to decreased cognition and should be explored further for translational applications.Disclosures A. Acute Stroke in Young Women Taking Phentermine (P01.249)
CONCLUSIONS: We present here two patients with mild underlying cerebrovascular risk factors who presented with acute stroke after taking diet pills containing phentermine. The public should be aware of the possible association between stroke and phentermine. More long-term outcomes research is necessary to understand the safety of phentermine-containing diet pills. Patients with cerebrovascular risk factors should be cautious about using Phentermine containing diet pills.Disclosure: Dr. Smit has nothing to disclose. A Case of Perioperative Stroke Caused by Tumour Embolus. (P6.244)
CONCLUSIONS: Tumour embolism has previously been described with primary and secondary lung neoplasms, as well as cardiac tumours. Although rare, this should be considered as a potential cause of perioperative stroke in patients after cancer surgery.Study Supported by: Non-applicable.Disclosure: Dr. Hughes has nothing to disclose. Assessment of Intracranial Collaterals on CT Angiography in Anterior Circulation Acute Ischemic Stroke FELLOWS' JOURNAL CLUB
CONCLUSIONS: Only the Miteff scoring system for intracranial collaterals is reliable for predicting favorable outcome in thrombolyzed acute anterior circulation ischemic stroke. However, poor outcomes can be predicted by most of the existing methods of scoring intracranial collaterals.

Predictors of response to endovascular treatment of posterior circulation stroke
ConclusionsPretreatment determination of the presence or absence of intracranial atherosclerosis can aid management of posterior circulation stroke patients. The absence of intracranial atherosclerosis may have value as a positive selection criterion for endovascular treatment in future trials. The presence of intracranial atherosclerosis could be used as a selection tool in future studies investigating new treatment protocols for this population.
