Sleep duration and risk of stroke and coronary heart disease: a 9-year community-based prospective study of 0.5 million Chinese adults
CONCLUSIONS: While abnormal sleep duration (≤ 6 h or ≥ 9 h) was associated with higher risks of CVD, the risks were more extreme for those reporting ≤ 5 or ≥ 10 h, respectively and such individuals should be prioritised for more intensive treatment for CVD prevention.PMID:37710209 | DOI:10.1186/s12883-023-03367-4

Intracerebral Hemorrhage Among Blood Donors and Their Transfusion Recipients
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In an exploratory analysis of patients who received red blood cell transfusions, patients who underwent transfusion with red blood cells from donors who later developed multiple spontaneous ICHs were at significantly increased risk of spontaneous ICH themselves. This may suggest a transfusion-transmissible agent associated with some types of spontaneous ICH, although the findings may be susceptible to selection bias and residual confounding, and further research is needed to investigate if transfusion transmission of cerebral amyloid angiopathy might explain this association.PMID:37698562 | DOI:1...

Investigation of Factors That Affect the Quality of Life After a Stroke
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1425:437-442. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-31986-0_42.ABSTRACTStroke, as a disease, describes a group of disorders characterized by the presence of central nervous system symptoms either as a result of ischemia (ischemic stroke) or bleeding (hemorrhagic stroke). The appearance of a stroke results in a permanent physical or cognitive disability. The stroke incidence is the third cause of death after heart disease and cancer, and is the main cause of long-term disability. The effects of a stroke on a patient's daily life, and hence on his quality of life, are intense and long-lasting. These include memory pro...

Protective Effects of Different Classes, Intensity, Cumulative Dose-Dependent of Statins Against Primary Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Curr Atheroscler Rep. 2023 Jul 29. doi: 10.1007/s11883-023-01135-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: The aim of this study is to investigate the protective effects of different statin classes, intensity, and cumulative dose-dependent against primary ischemic stroke in patients with T2DM.RECENT FINDINGS: The Cox hazards model was used to evaluate statin use on primary ischemic stroke. Case group: T2DM patients who received statins; control group: T2DM patients who received no statins during the follow-up. Adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) for primary ischemic stroke was 0.45 (95% CI: 0.44 to 0.46). Cox regression ...

The structured ambulatory post-stroke care program for outpatient aftercare in patients with ischaemic stroke in Germany (SANO): an open-label, cluster-randomised controlled trial
This study was registered with the German Clinical Trials Register, DRKS00015322.FINDINGS: Between Jan 1, 2019 and Dec 22, 2020, 36 clusters were assessed for eligibility, of which 30 were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n=15 clusters) or control group (n=15 clusters). No clusters dropped out of the study. 1203 (86%) of 1396 enrolled patients in the intervention group and 1283 (92%) of 1395 enrolled patients in the control group were included in the mITT population. The primary endpoint was confirmed in 64 (5·3%) of 1203 patients in the intervention group and 80 (6·2%) of 1283 patients in the control group (...

Risk and population attributable fraction of stroke subtypes in Japan
CONCLUSION: Although there are differences according to the subtypes, hypertension could be regarded as the most crucial target for preventing strokes in Japan.PMID:37460296 | DOI:10.2188/jea.JE20220364

Social Determinants of Health and Racial Disparities in Cardiac Events in Breast Cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Neighborhood and built environment variables are the most important SDOH predictors for 2-year MACE, and NHB patients were more likely to have unfavorable SDOH conditions. This finding reinforces that race is a social construct.PMID:37433439 | DOI:10.6004/jnccn.2023.7023

Duration-dependent impact of cardiometabolic diseases and multimorbidity on all-cause and cause-specific mortality: a prospective cohort study of 0.5  million participants
CONCLUSION: Among Chinese adults, mortality risk increased with the number of the CMDs and changed with prolonged disease duration, the patterns of which varied among the three CMDs.PMID:37308998 | DOI:10.1186/s12933-023-01858-9

Alcohol consumption and risks of more than 200 diseases in Chinese men
Nat Med. 2023 Jun 8. doi: 10.1038/s41591-023-02383-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlcohol consumption accounts for ~3 million annual deaths worldwide, but uncertainty persists about its relationships with many diseases. We investigated the associations of alcohol consumption with 207 diseases in the 12-year China Kadoorie Biobank of >512,000 adults (41% men), including 168,050 genotyped for ALDH2- rs671 and ADH1B- rs1229984 , with >1.1 million ICD-10 coded hospitalized events. At baseline, 33% of men drank alcohol regularly. Among men, alcohol intake was positively associated with 61 diseases, including 33 not defi...

Cardiovascular hemodynamics in mice with tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 2 mediated cytoprotection in the heart
DISCUSSION: While the reported tolerance to ischemic insults in TRAF2 overexpression mice may suggest enhanced cardiac reserve, our results indicate diminished cardiac function in these mice.PMID:37229235 | PMC:PMC10203617 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2023.1064640

Identification of the lncRNA-miRNA ‒mRNA regulatory network for middle cerebral artery occlusion-induced ischemic stroke
Front Genet. 2023 May 9;14:1169190. doi: 10.3389/fgene.2023.1169190. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTStroke known as a neurological disease has significant rates of disability and mortality. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models in rodents is crucial in stroke research to mimic human stroke. Building the mRNA and non-conding RNA network is essential for preventing MCAO-induced ischemic stroke occurrence. Herein, genome-wide mRNA, miRNA, and lncRNA expression profiles among the MCAO group at 3 h, 6 h, and 12 h after surgery and controls using high-throughput RNA sequencing. We detected differentially expressed mRNAs (DE-m...
