Increased risk of stroke and myocardial infarction in patients with epilepsy: A systematic review of population-based cohort studies.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with epilepsy are at higher risk of subsequent stroke and MI in comparison with subjects without epilepsy. Although individual AEDs may carry different risks of cardio- and cerebrovascular disease, the clinical relevance of the metabolic effects of the enzyme-inducing AEDs is still uncertain. Efficacy of the anti-seizure medications in acute symptomatic neonatal seizures caused by stroke. A systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Our review shows that the use of ASMs that act throughout a gabaergic mechanism are inadequate in controlling seizures secondary to neonatal stroke in full-term newborns. Very effective seems to be lidocaine and levetiracetam with an apparent safer profile in short and long term.
