Risk factors associated with recurrence of ischemic stroke after intracranial stenting in china: a case-control study
Conclusions: Recurrence of ischemic stroke after intracranial stenting may be associated with elderly age, non-smoking, and Mori C type lesion. These factors will need to be monitored in future trials of intracranial stenting.Clinical Trial Registration: URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT01968122.PMID:34148505 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1937877

Hyperuricemia and prognosis of acute ischemic stroke in diabetic patients.
CONCLUSIONS: HUA independently predicted poor in-hospital outcome of AIS in diabetic patients, especially in patients aged ≤ 75 years. PMID: 30526444 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effect of rt-PA intravenous thrombolysis on the prognosis of patients with minor ischemic stroke
Conclusion: Patients with MIS received intravenous thrombolysis may be associated with earlier neurological improvement, but might has no significant effect on long-term prognosis. The level of neutrophil ratio and CRP at admission are risk factors determining the prognosis, which requires further research.PMID:33847231 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2021.1908672

The role of extracranial carotid duplex in predicting functional outcome in first time lacunae strokes
CONCLUSION: In the current study, the most suitable length of stay in hospital for lacunae stroke patients to fully recuperate is ten days. Additionally, CCA EDV might be the key determinant, with baseline diabetes mellitus acting in a medium role, capable of altering long-term outcome functionality and recovery.PMID:36376279 | DOI:10.1080/01616412.2022.2140542

Low-dose rt-PA may not decrease the incidence of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage in patients with high risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that low-dose intravenous rt-PA for high-risk sICH stroke in Chinese patients may not decrease the incidence of sICH, and concomitant with a poor outcome compared to standard-dose rt-PA. ABBREVIATIONS: rt-PA: recombinant tissue plasminogen activator; AIS: acute ischemic stroke; sICH: symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage. PMID: 30822264 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A mini review: garlic extract and vascular diseases.
Authors: Zhu Y, Anand R, Geng X, Ding Y Abstract Vascular diseases refer to medical conditions that narrow blood vessels. Narrowed cardiac or cerebral arteries can lead to myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. Risk factors including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes may induce either cardiovascular or cerebral complications. Based on current research, garlic favorably affects atherosclerosis, hypertension and diabetes, and helps decrease the risk of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Garlic has been utilized for hundreds of years as a natural health remedy. New research is emerging regarding i...

Neuroprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning via modulating the expression of cerebral miRNAs against transient cerebral ischemia in diabetic rats.
In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of the Ischemic preconditioning (IPreC) on the expression profile of cerebral miRNAs against stroke by induced transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAo) in diabetic rats. METHODS: Eighty male Spraque Dawley rats were allocated to eight groups. In order to evaluate the expression profile of miRNAs, we induced transient MCAo seven days after STZ-induced diabetes (DM). Also we performed IPreC 72 h before transient MCAo to assess whether IPreC could have a neuroprotective effect against ischemia-reperfusion injury. RESULTS: The general characteristics of STZ-treat...

Expression of telomere repeat binding factor 1 and TRF2 in Alzheimer's disease and correlation with clinical parameters.
CONCLUSION: TRF1 and TRF2 may be both specific to peripheral blood serum of AD, and may be related to the development of AD. PMID: 30761946 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A new physical-cognitive scale for assessment of frailty in Chinese Han elderly.
CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed a significantly worse status in frail participants with CI than without. Our new scale shows a stronger correlation between frailty and complications than the classic phenotype. PMID: 31030646 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
