Atopic dermatitis (AD) and food allergy (FA) may share genetic risk factors, but it is unknown whether genetic risk alleles associated with food allergy are mediated through concomitant AD diagnosis.

The first article, with comments from Dr Joshi, presented data showing an association between severity of AD and learning disability. The next study also had comments from Dr Joshi about an analysis of a large UK birth cohort showing an association between AD and depression and other mental health problems. The last article, with comments from Dr Hernandez-Trujillo, reports on the recent US trends in alpha-gal IgE testing and the diagnosis of alpha-gal allergy.

Atopic Dermatitis With Coexisting Food Allergy in Early Life Is Associated With Childhood Asthma
CONCLUSIONS: AD with FA in early life is strongly associated with asthma and AR in school children, and the early-onset persistent AD with FA had a strong additive effect on the risk of asthma at school age. Classifying AD phenotypes regarding FA in early life will help predict and prevent asthma and AR in school children.PMID:36174996 | DOI:10.4168/aair.2022.14.5.565
