A Bio-Inspired Methylation Approach to Salt-Concentrated Hydrogel Electrolytes for Long-Life Rechargeable Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 5:e202311589. doi: 10.1002/anie.202311589. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHydrogel electrolytes hold great promise in developing flexible and safe batteries, but the presence of free solvent water makes battery chemistries constrained by H2 evolution and electrode dissolution. Although maximizing salt concentration is recognized as an effective strategy to reduce water activity, the protic polymer matrices in classical hydrogels are occupied with hydrogen-bonding and barely involved in the salt dissolution, which sets limitations on realizing stable salt-concentrated environments before poly...

The effect of chronic experimental toxoplasmosis on some brain neurotransmitters level and behavior changes
CONCLUSION: The presence of parasite cysts in the brain can affect some of the host's behaviors through changes in neurotransmitter levels. Therefore, there is a possibility that there is a relationship between the presence of Toxoplasma cysts in the brain and neurological disorders. The results of this study suggest that chronic toxoplasmosis may play a role in behavior changes in psychotic diseases.PMID:37394088 | DOI:10.1016/j.exppara.2023.108575

Anxiety, depression, and memory loss in Chagas disease: a puzzle far beyond neuroinflammation to be unpicked and solved
Mem Inst Oswaldo Cruz. 2023 Apr 3;118:e220287. doi: 10.1590/0074-02760220287. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTMental disorders such as anxiety, depression, and memory loss have been described in patients with chronic Chagas disease (CD), a neglected tropical disease caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. Social, psychological, and biological stressors may take part in these processes. There is a consensus on the recognition of an acute nervous form of CD. In chronic CD patients, a neurological form is associated with immunosuppression and neurobehavioural changes as sequelae of stroke. The chronic nervous form of CD ...
