Robotic versus laparoscopic gastric bypass in bariatric surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis on perioperative outcomes
CONCLUSION: This systematic review and meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference in key outcome measures in robotic versus laparoscopic gastric bypass. RBS was associated with a slightly higher reoperation rate and there was no reduction in overall complication rate with the use of robotic platform.PMID:37730445 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.08.007

Endoscopic therapies for patients with obesity: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionThis review is the first to evaluate various endoscopic bariatric therapies using only RCTs and observational studies for evaluation of weight loss compared with conservative management, lifestyle modification, and  bariatric surgery. Endoscopic therapies result in greater weight loss compared to lifestyle modification, but not as much as bariatric surgery. Endoscopic therapies may be beneficial as an alternative to bariatric surgery.

Investigat ıon of the effect of weight loss after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy on cobb angle, waist and back pain: a prospective study
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, weight loss after SG improved for patients with chronic low back and back pain and significantly improved their quality of life.PMID:37673710 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.07.010

Glycemic variability and hypoglycemia before and after Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy - A cohort study of females without diabetes
CONCLUSIONS: The lower IG concentration in combination with the higher GV after surgery, might create a lower margin to hypoglycemia. This could help explain the increased occurrence of hypoglycemic episodes after RYGB and SG.PMID:37652806 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.07.008

Effect of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Serum Adipokine Levels
We describe changes in pro-inflammatory (leptin, resistin, visfatin and chemerin) and anti-inflammatory adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), with adiponectin and leptin being most studied. Their levels are markedly changed after LSG and this may partially explain the weight loss seen after LSG. Adipokines are closely connected to insulin resistance and chronic inflammation both being positively influenced after LSG. Leptin regulates amount of body fat, appetite, thermogenesis and metabolic rate and its levels are positively correlated with both weight and BMI changes after operation. Resistin influences insulin sensitivity, ...

Financial toxicity risk among patients with gastric banding complications in the United States: analysis of the National Inpatient Sample
CONCLUSIONS: About 1 in 2 uninsured patients admitted for AGB-related complications were at risk of financial toxicity. In addition to surgical risks, providers should consider the potential financial consequences of AGB when counselling patients on their choice of surgery.PMID:37550162 | DOI:10.1016/j.soard.2023.07.002

Effect of Ultrasound-Guided Erector Spinae Plane Block on Recovery After Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy in Patients With Obesity: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Clin Ther. 2023 Jul 27:S0149-2918(23)00259-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clinthera.2023.07.010. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: Previous research has not evaluated the potential effect of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) on quality of recovery (QoR) after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Therefore, we investigated the effect of an ultrasound-guided ESPB performed on patients with obesity who have undergone laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, measured using the 15-item QoR (QoR-15) scale.METHODS: A total of 172 patients were enrolled in the study who were aged 18 to 65 years, had a body mass index ≥30 kg/m², were classified as ...
