Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Events in Pancreas-Kidney Transplants
Abstract: Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease (CCVD) are major causes of morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes. Strict control of treatable risk factors that contribute to atherosclerosis is important to reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. Simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation (SPKT) may significantly improve these risk factors in patients with type 1 diabetes. Effectiveness of combined therapy with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and statins in reducing mortality in diabetic patients with critical limb ischemia: An observational study
Conclusions: In patients with diabetes and CLI mortality after two years is high. Life expectancy was better in patients receiving combined therapy with ACE and statin but not with therapy with only a statin or an ACE.
