Mechanical thrombectomy with the Solitaire stent: is there a learning curve in achieving rapid recanalization times?
Conclusions There is a learning curve involved in the efficient use of the Solitaire stent in endovascular acute stroke therapy. Along with improvements in patient transfer to angiography and improved efficiency with intracranial access, mastering this device contributed significantly towards reducing recanalization times.

Effects of vascular comorbidity in parkinson's disease
Vascular disease and risk factors are common in Parkinson's disease (PD) and may influence phenotype. Statin therapy may thus be indicated. 1759 recently diagnosed PD cases from a multicentre prospective study underwent a Montreal Cognitive Assessment and the Unified PD Rating Scale part 3 (UPDRS 3). History of vascular events, risk factors and statin usage was recorded. QRISK2 quantified cardiovascular risk. Mean age was 67.5 (SD 9.3), disease duration 1.3 (SD 0.9) years, 65.2% male. 4.7% had prior stroke/TIA, 12.5% cardiac disease, 30.4% hypertension, 27.3% high cholesterol, 20.7% obesity, 7.2% diabetes and 4.6% smokers....

Grey matter and csf amyloid in early non-demented parkinson's disease: the incidence of cognitive impairment in cohorts with longitudinal evaluation in parkinson's disease (icicle-pd) study
Conclusion We report a significant correlation between reduced GM volume and lower Aβ1–40 and Aβ1–42 levels in patients with newly diagnosed PDND. These data suggest that even in early PD, CSF markers may be associated with measures of brain atrophy. Although neither GM loss nor Aβ1–40 or Aβ1–42 levels correlated with cognitive performance, we postulate that this reflects the very early nature of the neurodegenerative process in this cohort.

Grey matter correlations of cognitive impairment in early parkinson's disease: the incidence of cognitive impairment in cohorts with longitudinal evaluation-parkinson's disease (icicle-pd) study
Conclusion GM loss is not present in newly diagnosed PD, either in patients with PD–MCI or PD–NC. These data are consistent with neuropathological studies suggesting that GM loss occurs with disease progression and is not prominent in early PD where the neurodegenerative process is more limited.

Endoscopic supraorbital eyebrow approach for the surgical treatment of extraaxialand intraaxial tumors.
Conclusions The endoscopic supraorbital eyebrow approach is a safe and effective minimally invasive approach to remove extra- and intraaxial anterior skull base, parasellar, and frontal lesions, promoting a rapid recovery and short hospital stay. The location of the eyebrow incision demands a meticulous cosmetic closure, but, with proper technique, cosmetic results are excellent. PMID: 25270140 [PubMed - in process]

Cerebral glucose metabolism and cognition in newly diagnosed Parkinson's disease: ICICLE-PD study
Conclusions Reductions in cortical FDG metabolism were present in newly diagnosed PD, and correlated with performance on neuropsychological tests. A reduced baseline parietal metabolism is associated with risk of cognitive decline and may represent a potential biomarker for this state and the development of PD dementia.

188 Structural differences in access to neurological healthcare in Northern Ireland: a neurodisparity index
Disparities in management of neurological patients should be minimal in a universal healthcare system. Northern Ireland has one neuroscience centre but no neurology centres. We have devised an easily- applied neurodisparity index (NDI) to measure population equity of neurological healthcare. NDI=number of patients managed per 105 population per Trust/number of patients managed per 105 population of the tertiary centre Trust. NDIs <0.75 and >1.25 were arbitrarily designated as neurodisparities. NDIs were calculated between 2013–2016 for intravenous thrombolysis (eight centres) or mechanical thrombectomy (one cen...
