In Vivo Cardiac-specific Expression of Adenylyl Cyclase 4 Gene Protects against Klotho Deficiency-induced Heart Failure
In conclusion, cardiac-specific AC4 gene expression protects against Klotho deficiency-induced heart failure through increasing cardiomyocytic cAMP levels, which alleviates cAMP-dependent mitochondrial dysfunction, superoxide accumulation and apoptotic cell death. AC4 regulates superoxide levels via the cAMP-PKA pathway. AC4 could be a potential therapeutic target for heart failure associated with Klotho deficiency. BACKGROUND: Heart failure is the major cause of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). A decrease in Klotho levels is linked to CKD. TRANSLATIONAL SIGNIFICANCE: We expect that treatment with K...

Lifetime Cardiovascular Disease Risk by Coronary Artery Calcium Score in Individuals With and Without Diabetes: An Analysis From the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with diabetes carry a spectrum of CVD risk. CAC scoring may improve decisions for preventive interventions for patients with diabetes by better delineating lifetime CVD risk.PMID:35168253 | DOI:10.2337/dc21-1607

Dengue virus infection induces inflammation and oxidative stress on the heart
Conclusions DENV-3 infection induced a marked cardiac dysfunction, which may be associated with inflammation, oxidative stress and electrophysiological changes in the heart. These findings provide new cardiac insights into the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis triggered by DENV, contributing to the research of new therapeutic targets for clinical practice.

Comparison of Serum Selenium Levels Between Patients with Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation and Normal Controls
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2022 May 9. doi: 10.1007/s12011-022-03281-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained dysrhythmia in the elderly population. It is estimated to affect more than 30 million people worldwide. AF occurs when abnormal electrical impulses start to activate in the atria and override the heart's natural pacemaker, which can no longer control the heart's rhythm. Since atrial contractility is impaired in AF, blood flow in the atria becomes stasis over time and causes thrombus formation. This thrombus causes the risk of embolism and causes complications such as stroke. ...
