Easy ‐to‐use preload stress echocardiography by using combined dynamic postural stress can identify high‐risk patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
ConclusionsThe combined assessment of dynamic postural stress is a non ‐invasive, simple, quick, and easy‐to‐use clinical tool for assessing preload reserve and risk stratification in HFrEF patients.

Parathormone levels add prognostic ability to N ‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide in stable coronary patients
ConclusionsParathormone is an independent predictor of cardiovascular events in coronary patients, adding complimentary prognostic information to NT ‐proBNP plasma levels. This predictive value is restricted to patients with high FGF23 plasma levels. This should be considered in the design of future studies in this field.

Association between oral contraceptive use and incident heart failure
ConclusionsOral contraceptive use in women of reproductive age does not portend increased risk of HF. However, whether the formulations or dosages differently impact this association should be further investigated.

Myocardial work index: a marker of left ventricular contractility in pressure ‐ or volume overload‐induced heart failure
ConclusionsBeing significantly influenced by loading conditions, GLS may not be a reliable marker of LV contractility in heart failure induced by pressure or volume overload. GMWI better reflects contractility in haemodynamic overload states, making it a more robust marker of systolic function, while GLS should be considered as an integrative marker, incorporating systolic function, haemodynamic loading state, and adverse tissue remodelling of the LV.

Outcomes in patients with anthracycline ‐induced cardiomyopathy undergoing left ventricular assist devices implantation
ConclusionsAfter receiving a CF-LVAD, survival in patients with anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy is similar to those with ICM or IDM. Further research into differential secondary endpoints-related disparities is warranted.

Temporal changes of cardiac acoustic biomarkers and cardiac function in acute decompensated heart failure
ConclusionsSome CABs in ADHF patients changed significantly in the normal direction throughout the treatment course and could be useful biomarkers in ADHF management.

A case series analysis on the clinical experience of Impella 5.5 ® at a large tertiary care centre
ConclusionsIn this early experience of the pVAD 5.5, procedural and device-related complications were observed but were manageable, and overall survival was high in this critically ill cohort, particularly when the device was used as a bridge to other therapies.

Clinical significance of new ‐onset atrial fibrillation in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
ConclusionsIn our HCM registry in an aged Japanese community, a significant proportion developed AF. The presence of AF, particularly new-onset AF, was associated with increased incidence of HCM-related events. AF may not be just a marker of disease stage but an important trigger of adverse events.

Right ventricular and cyclic guanosine monophosphate signalling abnormalities in stages B and C of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ConclusionExercise CMR identifies impaired RV-arterial coupling at an early stage of HFpEF. Circulating cGMP levels phenocopy the haemodynamic spectrum in HFpEF but fail to increase after phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibition, endorsing the need for alternative interventions to increase cGMP signalling in HFpEF.

Sympathetic activation in heart failure with reduced and mildly reduced ejection fraction: the role of aetiology
ConclusionsMuscle sympathetic nerve activity parameters indicated significant sympathetic activation in both HFmrEF and HFrEF patients as compared with healthy controls with no difference in relation to ischaemic versus non-ischaemic aetiology.

Peripheral microvascular dysfunction is associated with plaque progression and adverse long ‐term outcomes in heart transplant patients
ConclusionsPeripheral endothelial dysfunction is associated with increased plaque progression and adverse long-term cardiovascular outcomes in transplant patients. PED assessment might be a useful clinical tool for risk stratification after heart transplantation.

Left ventricular dimensions and cardiovascular outcomes in systolic heart failure: the WARCEF trial
ConclusionsLeft ventricular enlargement is an independent predictor of CV events in patients with HFrEF and recommended HF treatment. LV dimensions should be considered in the risk assessment.

Rest and exercise oxygen uptake and cardiac output changes 6  months after successful transcatheter mitral valve repair
ConclusionsThese data confirm pMVR-induced clinical improvement and reverse ventricular remodelling at a 6-month analysis and show, in spite of an increase in CO, an unchanged exercise performance, which is achieved through a ‘more physiological’ blood flow distribution and O2 extraction behaviour. Direct rest and exercise CO should be measured to assess pMVR efficacy.

Regional left ventricular systolic dysfunction associated with critical illness: incidence and effect on outcome
ConclusionsLeft ventricular systolic dysfunction is commonly triggered by critical illness, is frequently seen as regional hypokinesia, and is linked to an increased risk of death. The prognostic importance of LV dysfunction in critical illness might be underestimated.
