Preoperative Tissue Doppler Imaging-Derived Atrial Conduction Time Predicts Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Mitral Valve Surgery for Mitral Valve Regurgitation.
CONCLUSIONS: PA-TDI duration was an independent predictor of POAF after MVS. Patients with PA-TDI duration >159.4 ms should be considered high risk and treated appropriately to improve outcome. PMID: 26538374 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Prognostic Impact of Loop Diuretics in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure - Effects of Addition of Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System Inhibitors and β-Blockers.
CONCLUSIONS: Chronic use of loop diuretics is significantly associated with worse prognosis in CHF patients in a dose-dependent manner, whereas the triple combination of RAAS inhibitor(s), MRA, and β-blocker(s) is associated with better prognosis when combined with low-dose loop diuretics. Effect of Anemia on Cardiovascular Hemodynamics, Therapeutic Strategy and Clinical Outcomes in Patients With Heart Failure and Hemodynamic Congestion.
CONCLUSIONS: Anemia had a direct effect on cardiovascular hemodynamics and thus can confound therapeutic planning in HF patients with HC. The novel hemodynamic subsets can be applied in daily clinical practice regardless of the presence or absence of anemia. PMID: 28626160 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Significance of Pulmonary Arterial Capacitance Calculated by Echocardiography in Patients With Advanced Heart Failure.
CONCLUSIONS: Decreased PAC as measured by echocardiography, indicating elevated PAWP and RV dysfunction, predicted poorer outcomes in patients with advanced HF. PMID: 28679970 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Diastolic Dysfunction Is a Risk of Perioperative Myocardial Injury Assessed by High-Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin T in Elderly Patients Undergoing Non-Cardiac Surgery.
CONCLUSIONS: PMI is frequently observed in elderly patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Diastolic dysfunction is an independent predictor of PMI. PMID: 29151453 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Unraveled Link Between Antiviral Therapy and Heart Failure Hospitalization in Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection - A Nationwide Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: AVT for chronic HCV infection might offer protection against HF hospitalizations, critical vascular events, and cardiovascular death beyond known beneficial effects. PMID: 29503408 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Outcomes of Pulmonary Embolectomy for Acute Pulmonary Embolism.
CONCLUSIONS: The outcomes of pulmonary embolectomy were acceptable, considering the urgency and preoperative comorbidities of patients. Early triage of patients with hemodynamically unstable PE is important. PMID: 29952349 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Clinical Manifestations and Long-Term Mortality in Lamin A/C Mutation Carriers From a Japanese Multicenter Registry.
CONCLUSIONS: Several cardiac phenotypes were age-dependently increased in LMNA mutation carriers, suggesting that ICD or CRT-D could suppress SCD after middle age; however, LVD leading to end-stage heart failure was the only independent predictor for total mortality. Prognostic Value of Left Atrial Size and Functional Indices Measured by 3-Dimensional Speckle-Tracking Analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: LA indices measured by 3DSTA had greater prognostic power for future MACE than 2DE. In particular, 3DSTA-derived LAEmpF has the potential to be a valuable prognostic tool in clinical settings. PMID: 30760654 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

H2FPEF Score for the Prediction of Exercise Intolerance and Abnormal Hemodynamics in Japanese - Evaluation by Exercise Stress Echocardiography Combined With Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing.
CONCLUSIONS: The H2FPEF-score may be useful as the initial step to diagnosing 'early' HFpEF. The nomogram-score may be more useful in Japanese because of its more universal association with exercise response than the H2FPEF-score. PMID: 31708523 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Uremic Toxin-Targeting as a Therapeutic Strategy for Preventing Cardiorenal Syndrome.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health problem. CKD patients are at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary artery disease, heart failure and stroke. Several factors invoke a vicious cycle of CKD and CVD, which is referred as to "cardiorenal syndrome". Among these factors, the compounds retained through loss of renal excretion play a pathological role in causing atherosclerosis and CVD. These compounds have been broadly classified as uremic toxins because of their accumulation with declining renal function and cytotoxicity. The major uremic toxins contributing to ...
