Survival After Myectomy for Obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: What Causes Late Mortality?
ConclusionsThis study, using 2 independent sources to verify vital status and cause of mortality, confirms that survival after septal myectomy is excellent. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was identified as the primary cause of death in less than 20%, with mortality in most patients unrelated to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Trends in HeartMate 3: What we know so far
ConclusionHeartMate 3 has reduced the rate of disabling stroke and pump thrombosis. However, despite increased hemocompatibility due to specialized design features, the residual risk of both surgical, and gastrointestinal bleeding remains a major adverse outcome. Different anticoagulation management and surgical techniques have been evaluated to address the remaining complications.

The Relationship Between Mitral Annular Calcification, Metabolic Syndrome and Thromboembolic Risk
Conclusion: We have shown that CHA2DS2-VASc score and presence of MetS rates were significantly higher in patients with MAC compared without MAC. Presence of MAC was correlated with CHA2DS2-VASc score, presence of MetS, AF and left atrial diameter and negatively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction.

The Status and Research Progress on Vitamin D Deficiency and Atrial Fibrillation
Abstract Atrial fibrillation is a common type of arrhythmia and is an important cause of stroke and heart failure. vitamin D is an emerging risk factor of AF, and is implicated in the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation. It has been established that this vitamin is extensively involved in the regulation of both the renin angiotensin aldosterone system and the immune system. Epidemiological studies have not yet reached a consensus on the possible association between vitamin D deficiency and atrial fibrillation. Better research designs and methods can further clarify the relationship between the two.

Silent Valsalva thrombus between the native Valsalva and balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valve: multicentre Japanese registry analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Valsalva thrombus was detected in 8.9% of patients following balloon-expandable THV implantation and was common in the LCC, but it did not increase the risk of adverse events after TAVI. PMID: 31746754 [PubMed - in process]

HVAD Cannula Position and Hemocompatibility-related Adverse Events
ConclusionsHVAD cannula coronal angle was associated with reduced right ventricular function and HRAE. Prospective studies evaluating surgical techniques to ensure optimal device positioning and its effects on HRAEs are warranted.

Preoperative prealbumin does not impact outcomes after left ventricular assist device implantation
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that lower prealbumin levels were not predictive of increased post ‐LVAD morbidity or mortality. Although an established marker of nutritional and inflammatory status, the role of prealbumin in patient selection or prognostication appears limited in LVAD patients.

Predictors of Acute Kidney Injury Following Surgical Valve Replacement
Conclusion Independent predictors of acute kidney injury following valve surgeries include age, hypertension, heart failure, MR, use of ACEi <month, perioperative blood transfusion, and prolonged pump time or inotropic support. Prediction of right ventricular failure after continuous flow left ventricular assist device implantation
ConclusionEUROMACS and CRITT scores predict RVF with high discrimination after LVAD implantation. Although, no other single test predicts RVF ideally, combination of risk scores and parameters discriminate RVF acceptably.

The fate of active left ‐side infective endocarditis with operative indication in absence of valve surgery
ConclusionThe mortality of this cohort of patients is extremely high. A multidisciplinary evaluation is of paramount importance in the decision ‐making process with shared responsibility for denial of operative options. In a perspective of correct healthcare resources allocation an early palliative care consult may need to be considered in some of those patients.

The Impact of Race on Outcomes of Revascularization for Multivessel Coronary Artery Disease.
CONCLUSIONS: Black patients with MVCAD have a higher comorbidity burden and undergo PCI at higher rates. After adjusting for baseline differences, black patients still had higher rates of PCI utilization and long-term stroke. It is possible that a significant portion of racial disparities in MVCAD are driven by differences in baseline risk, however, there is evidence of possible racial bias with regards to revascularization strategies. Predictors of Non-Stenting Strategy for Acute Coronary Syndrome Caused by Plaque Erosion: 4-Year Outcomes of the EROSION Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Four-year follow-up findings reconfirmed the safety of an anti-thrombotic therapy without stenting for erosion-caused acute coronary syndrome. Patients with better response to anti-thrombotic therapy in the first month were less likely to require stent implantation during the next four years.
