Central Nervous System Complications and Outcomes after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation
This retrospective study of 351 patients, who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation between 2002 and 2011 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, demonstrated 12% incidence of central nervous system complications. The most common complications included posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (40%), stroke or transient ischemic attack (24%), seizures (20%), and infection (9%). The 5-year overall survival was significantly lower among patients with versus without central nervous system complications (14% vs. 44%, p=0.0004).

Medical Conditions Among Survivors of Adolescent and Young Adult Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
Conclusion: This study found that sociodemographic factors were associated with the risk of developing medical conditions in AYA NHL, ALL and AML survivors. As expected, the risk of medical conditions varied by cancer type and treatment, with those undergoing SCT having a higher risk of medical conditions regardless of cancer type. NHL and ALL survivors who were uninsured or publicly insured were at a consistently higher risk of developing medical conditions, as were Hispanic ALL survivors and Black AML survivors.
