Microbial spectrum and drug resistance profile in solid malignancies in a large tertiary hospital from Palestine
CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this investigation confirm the prevalent BSI seen in patients with solid malignancies and demonstrate a significant percentage of antibiotic resistance. Therefore, stewardship programs that dig deep before using any type of antimicrobials will help reduce the risk of resistance to antibiotics. In addition, the implementation of infection control surveillance plays an important role in decreasing the risk of contamination.PMID:35436875 | DOI:10.1186/s12879-022-07375-6

A multi-centre study comparing granulocyte-colony stimulating factors to antibiotics for primary prophylaxis of docetaxel-cyclophosphamide induced febrile neutropenia
CONCLUSION: The primary endpoint of superiority of G-CSF over ciprofloxacin was not demonstrated. While there were reduced FN rates with G-CSF, there were no differences in chemotherapy dose delays/reductions or discontinuations. With the commonly used willingness to pay value of C$50,000/QALY, G-CSF use was not cost-effective compared to ciprofloxacin and deserves scrutiny from the payer perspective.PMID:33901921 | DOI:10.1016/j.breast.2021.03.012

Influence of ABC transporters on the excretion of ciprofloxacin assessed with PET imaging in mice
Eur J Pharm Sci. 2021 Apr 15:105854. doi: 10.1016/j.ejps.2021.105854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCiprofloxacin is a commonly prescribed fluoroquinolone antibiotic which is cleared by active tubular secretion and intestinal excretion. Ciprofloxacin is a known substrate of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP) and multidrug resistance-associated protein 4 (MRP4). In this work, we used positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to investigate the influence of BCRP, MRP4, MRP2 and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) on the excretion of [18F]ciprofloxacin in mice. Dynamic 90-min PET scans were...

3,7-bis-benzylidene hydrazide ciprofloxacin derivatives as promising antiproliferative dual TOP I & amp; TOP II isomerases inhibitors
We report herein design and synthesis of a new series of 3,7-bis-benzylidenes of ciprofloxacin. Most of the target compounds revealed good cytotoxic activity; the most potent 4e and 4i achieved strong broad spectrum antiproliferative activity with comparable activity to Doxorubicin with IC50 (µM) of 1.21 ± 0.02, 0.87 ± 0.04, 1.21 ± 0.02; 0.41 ± 0.02, 0.57 ± 0.06, 1.31 ± 0.04 and 1.26 ± 0.01, 1.79 ± 0.04, 0.63 ± 0.01 against leukemia cancer cell line HL-60 (TB), colon cancer cell line HCT-116 and breast cancer cell line MCF7, respectively. Moreover, the most potent derivative 4i induced apoptosis at G2/M phase Inv...
