Mangosteen: The Cancer-Fighting Superfruit
If you're a woman with a family history of breast cancer, your doctor may recommend you start taking a toxic chemo drug like tamoxifen to lower your risk of developing the disease. Even if you have no signs or symptoms of cancer. Tamoxifen is what's known as a chemopreventive agent. That's a fancy phrase that means it's something that prevents cancer from forming. But its track record isn't all that impressive. Trials found that for every 1,000 women who take the drugs, only 21 to 35 cases of cancer would be prevented. And the side effects are downright terrifying. Bone pain, blood clots, increas...

Turmeric: Nature ’s Miracle Root for Disease
My friends Lelir and Westi in Bali don’t like to go to doctors. Nature is their pharmacy. You see, Lelir is a Balian. That means “herbal healer.” And Westi’s plantation is bursting with healing plants.  But one plant stands out above all the others. Lelir uses it to make a daily immune-boosting elixir as well as an anti-aging facial scrub. Balians use it as an antibiotic and for liver support. They boil it with milk and sugar to treat the common cold and allergies. Rural doctors make it into a paste with lime to ease sore joints. They make drinks to treat fevers and stomach pain. They mix it wi...

Lower Blood Pressure Naturally With This Herb From Bali
My latest book, Healing Herbs of Paradise, has been a great success! Readers from all around the globe have written to tell me how much they love it — and how they’re already using what they’ve learned from the book to improve their health. If you’re a regular reader, you know I’ve been traveling the world for more than 20 years in search of natural cures. I’ve seen so many beautiful places and discovered so many healing remedies that aren’t on mainstream medicine’s radar… but nothing prepared me for the wonder of Bali. Not only its beauty — but its abundance of plants, herb...

Factors affecting return to work after injury or illness: best evidence synthesis of systematic reviews
ConclusionsExpectations of recovery and return-to-work, pain and disability levels, depression, workplace factors, and access to multidisciplinary resources are important modifiable factors in progressing return-to-work across health and injury conditions. Employers, healthcare providers and other stakeholders can use this information to facilitate return-to-work for injured/ill workers regardless of the specific injury or illness. Future studies should investigate novel interventions, and other factors that may be common across health conditions.

Rooibos: Better Than Green Tea For Many Reasons
When I hiked Table Mountain on my last trip to South Africa, the locals told me about an herb that is better than green tea that kept them disease-free. African Bushmen have used this herb since before recorded history, but it’s still pretty rare here in America. Studies on this plant are being done all over the world. But not in the U.S. Because Big Pharma and the FDA aren’t interested in a natural cure that can’t be patented — or profited from. What is This South African Herb? I’m talking about an herb called Rooibos — or red bush in Afrikaans. Rooibos (pronounced roy-boss) provides a whole lo...

Turmeric: Bali’s Anti-Cancer Tonic
I’m always happy to find things in my travels to bring back to you. Today I want to tell you about a miracle of nature called turmeric. Turmeric has been used to treat a wide variety of conditions. You can read about it in-depth in my latest book, Healing Herbs of Paradise. The roots of this exotic leafy plant contain curcumin, a very powerful antioxidant that also has remarkable anti-inflammatory properties.1,2,3 What Does Curcumin Do? Curcumin neutralizes free radicals… those nasty little chemicals that travel through your body and cause damage to healthy cells and cell membranes. Which means curcumin effectivel...

Vitamin D Deficiency Is As Dangerous As Smoking
The advice you’re getting from your doctor, the TV and even the Surgeon General is so wrong, it’s scary. They’re all busy telling you to stay out of the sun. But Swedish researchers recently discovered that nonsmokers who avoid the sun have a life expectancy similar to smokers who spend a lot of time in the sun. Staying out of the sun is as dangerous as smoking.1 It doesn’t surprise me. I tell all my patients sunlight exposure is essential to our health because it is the best source of vitamin D… possibly the most important nutrient we know of. Mainstream medicine still doesn’t recognize th...

Better than Aspirin for Your Heart
If you’ve been diagnosed with heart disease, the chances are you’ve been told to take low-dose aspirin every day as a preventative measure against heart attack and stroke. It’s most commonly prescribed for patients with congestive heart failure. This is the inability of your heart to pump as much blood as your body needs. And this is a big worry to me, because there is very little evidence that aspirin helps. In fact, regular use of aspirin — even baby aspirin — can do you more harm than good. Common Aspirin Beliefs The idea is that aspirin thins the blood, making it easier to pump.  It is also s...

Visceral Fat Triggers Heart Disease
I tell my patients to avoid drinking soda not just because they make you fat. Each sip of soda affects your health. Soda puts you at risk for health problems like metabolic syndrome. This is a collection of symptoms that can lead to diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases, like cancer. Soft drinks are the beverage of choice for millions of Americans. The latest research now reveals that sodas are a major cause of visceral fat — the deadliest kind of fat you can have, inflaming your tissues, rotting your blood vessels and upsetting your body chemistry. In a minute I’m going to tell you about a great healthy ...

This Vitamin Can Save Your Brain
Your brain has amazing abilities. And it can heal itself. That’s not something you’re likely to hear from mainstream medicine — especially if you or a loved one suffer from the effects of stroke, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or another form of dementia. Here at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine, I’ve seen many people with brain damage. And, sadly, most have been deemed “hopeless” by so-called medical experts. But I can tell you there is nothing hopeless about dementia — no matter what its cause. With the right nutrients, there are times when brain damage can be reversed. And now recent research from...

Dr. Sears Saves Hospital Patient?
Since I started practicing “telemedicine” at my Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine — the response has been just incredible. Telemedicine is the use of medical information exchanged from one site to another via electronic communications to improve a patient’s health status. You can now have private consultations with me or my clinical team from the comfort of your own home — through a live video stream. Tele-patients use tele-health service to receive advice or treatment from another location. I’m delighted for all my new patients that have already registered to become “tele-patients” from acros...

Antrodia camphorata Potentiates Neuroprotection against Cerebral Ischemia in Rats via Downregulation of iNOS/HO-1/Bax and Activated Caspase-3 and Inhibition of Hydroxyl Radical Formation.
In this study, we sought to investigate the molecular mechanisms of neuroprotective effects of A. camphorata in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rats. A selective occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) with whole blood clots was used to induce ischemic stroke in rats and they were orally treated with A. camphorata (0.25 and 0.75 g/kg/day) alone or combined with aspirin (5 mg/kg/day). To provide insight into the functions of A. camphorata mediated neuroprotection, the expression of Bax, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), haem oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and activated caspase-3 was determined by Western blot a...

Can Oxygen Therapy Bring Dead Brain Cells Back To Life?
During my Palm Beach Anti-Aging Summit in October, I’m hosting some of the world’s leading authorities on oxygen therapy. The Summit coincides with the grand opening of my 17,000-sq.-ft. Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine, where I’m unveiling a specially-designed room that houses my first hyperbaric oxygen chamber. I hope you’ll be there, as you’ll discover the newest applications and breakthroughs in this growing field. You see, when oxygen is pressurized — like it is when you’re inside the chamber — you can treat more than just chronic disease. Truth is, hyperbaric oxygen can...

Nature’s Most Powerful Age Fighter?
When I lecture at anti-aging conferences around the world, I get a good sense of what the leading anti-aging physicians are thinking about. And I’m surprised by how many are still holding out hope for an anti-aging “drug.” But I’m not holding my breath. And even if the FDA approved a drug for aging, it would likely include a laundry list of side effects, and only affect a small range of age-related decline. I’ve always had more faith in nature. Many of the most powerful age fighters are naturally occurring, and they do a better job of supporting and lengthening your telomeres than any drug. Te...

Super Nutrient’s Liver Surprise
I was one of the first doctors to talk about the incredible benefits of the super-nutrient pyrroloquinoline quinone, or PQQ for short. I was also one of the first doctors to recommend it to patients. Now I recommend this essential nutrient and powerful antioxidant to almost everyone who comes to see me at my wellness clinic. Researchers have only just recently begun to understand the many important roles of PQQ on the body’s cellular processes. Not only does it possess extraordinary energy-giving qualities and have the power to ease nerve pain and battle Alzheimer’s, it has the potential to become the world’s stronge...
