As COVID-Era Restrictions End, Disabled Americans Want to Avoid a ‘Return to Normal’
President Joe Biden hired Kim Knackstedt in early 2021 to make sure that Americans with disabilities were not forgotten as the country returned to normal after the COVID-19 pandemic. A year later, that seems to be precisely what has happened—and it’s unfortunate, Knackstedt says. “What was considered ‘normal’ was actually not a great way to live, often,” says Knackstedt, who served as the first White House director of disability policy, before leaving the administration on March 11. “It wasn’t accessible. It actually didn’t provide all of the things that we needed to ge...

The effects of COVID-19 victimization distress and racial bias on mental health among AIAN, Asian, Black, and Latinx young adults.
Conclusion: Results suggest the COVID-19 pandemic has created new pathways to mental health disparities among young adults of color by reversing formerly protective factors such as employment, and by exacerbating structural and societal inequities linked to race. Findings highlight the necessity of creating mental health services tailored to the specific needs of racial minorities during the current and future health crises. The ethics of encouraging employees to get the COVID-19 vaccination
AbstractThe coronavirus pandemic continues to hinder the ability of businesses to operate at full capacity. Vaccination offers a path for employees to return to work, and for businesses to resume full capacity, while protecting themselves, their fellow workers, and customers. Many employers reluctant to mandate vaccination for their employees are considering other ways to increase employee vaccination rates. Because much has been written about the ethics of vaccine mandates, we examine a related and less discussed topic: the ethics of encouragement strategies aimed at overcoming vaccinereluctance (which can be due to resis...

Development and initial validation of the job-search self-regulation scale: Expanding the career adaptation model of job search.
Given the pressing issues of unemployment during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the underrecognized role of job-search self-regulation (JSSR) in general within career construction theory (CCT), it is socially and theoretically important to expand the career adaption model of job search by examining the role of JSSR in predicting job-search outcomes. However, a psychometrically sound measure of JSSR is lacking. Study 1 used a sample of U.S. unemployed individuals (n = 300) to develop and explore the factor structure of a measure of JSSR. Study 2 tracked a sample of U.S. unemployed individuals (n = 399) to v...
