CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire’s spring turkey hunting season will open with some recommended precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the state Fish and Game Department said. The youth turkey hunt will take place the weekend of Saturday April 25, and Sunday, April 26. The spring hunt will open on May 1 and run through May 31. Hunting locally is recommended and hunters should opt for day trips rather than traveling to camp, the department said. Hunters should venture out alone or with immediate family members from the same household only. “Hunters must also be aware of the increased number of peo...

No one is in charge of the UK's coronavirus response – and it shows | Simon Jenkins
NHS promises unmet, local government ignored, care homes forgotten. Has any British politician got their hand on the tiller?Something is clearly wrong. Britain does not need Boris Johnson, but it needs a prime minister, and badly. Coronavirus promises are madeand not fulfilled. Orders go out andare not delivered. The clothing industry in the UK apparentlycannot mass-produce a simple medical gown or mask, and must turn to Turkey, China and volunteers with sewing machines and 3D printers for supplies.Ever since Tony Blair came to power, the British government has been what some observers call “Napoleonic”. The focus of a...

NH Turkey Sightings Increase Significantly During Coronavirus Pandemic
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Turkey sightings are on the rise in New Hampshire, possibly because of the coronavirus pandemic. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said results from its 2020 winter survey reflect 2,309 flocks totaling 40,476 turkeys statewide. That was more than four times as many turkeys counted in 2019 and twice as many as reported in 2018. “With many people spending more time at home last winter, there was an increase in backyard bird feeding as well as bird watching, which may have contributed to the uptick in reports,” said Allison Keating, a state turkey biologist. More than 46,000 people have tes...

Coronavirus Is Closing Borders in Europe and Beyond. What Does That Mean for Refugees?
When Wahidullah Rahimi leaves his tent to wander around the refugee camp on the Greek island of Samos, he wears a face mask. But between standing in line alongside other refugees at food distribution centers and sleeping in an unsanitary tent, the 32-year-old Afghan knows there is little he can do to protect himself from COVID-19. “There is a big possibility of everyone here getting coronavirus,” Rahimi says. “Everyone is worried.” The E.U.-funded camp in Samos, built in 2016 to house 640 people, is now home to at least 3,745 refugees who live in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. Asylum-seeker...
