CROI 2023: Summary of Basic Science Research in HIV
Top Antivir Med. 2023 Jun 30;31(4):523-528.ABSTRACTThe 2023 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) represented the first fully in-person conference since the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic began. CROI continues as the premier conference in which delegates can appraise themselves of almost every facet of HIV/AIDS research as well as emerging and re-emerging pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 and mpox. The return to an in-person format is particularly important for early-stage investigators, who were faced with challenges of advancing their independent research careers...

News at a glance: Glimpsing forming planets, hunting hydrogen, and an iconic parrot ’s return
ASTRONOMY Dust clouds seen collapsing into planets Researchers say they’ve glimpsed distant planets forming from collapsing clouds of dust around a young star , providing some of the first evidence for a theory of planet formation. Theorists believe planets are born either from the bottom-up, when dust aggregates and gravitationally attracts more material, or top-down, as dust clouds collapse under gravity. Gaps in disks of dust around young stars, presumably created as protoplanets vacuum up material, provide evidence for the bottom-up scenario. The top-down phenomenon has been harder to spot. But ...

Integrated Care Models for Long Coronavirus Disease
Phys Med Rehabil Clin N Am. 2023 Aug;34(3):689-700. doi: 10.1016/j.pmr.2023.03.007. Epub 2023 May 8.ABSTRACTProfessional or governmental agencies and organizations have developed guidelines to define the problem and evaluate and manage patients with Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS CoV-2 (PASC). Multidisciplinary models largely exist in academic centers and larger cities; however, most care for PASC patients is provided by the primary care providers. The American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation has been in the forefront in releasing consensus statements as a part of the long COVID collaborative.PMID:37419540 | P...

SARS-CoV-2 wildlife surveillance in Ontario and Qu ébec
CONCLUSION: Although we were unable to identify positive SARS-CoV-2 cases in wildlife, continued research and surveillance activities are critical to better understand the rapidly changing landscape of susceptible animal species. Collaboration between academic, public and animal health sectors should include experts from relevant fields to build coordinated surveillance and response capacity.PMID:37333575 | PMC:PMC10273785 | DOI:10.14745/ccdr.v48i06a02
