Immigrant Mothers' Perspectives on Pediatric Primary Care: Challenges and Solutions to Improve Medical Home Use
J Health Care Poor Underserved. 2024;35(1):299-315.ABSTRACTChildren in immigrant families (CIF) constitute 25% of all children in the United States. Known barriers to accessing and navigating the health care system for immigrants (i.e., poverty, fear, limited English proficiency, lack of insurance) lead to decreased medical home establishment among CIF, although the ways in which these obstacles affect medical home access are less studied. With a focus on Congolese, Afghan, Syrian/Iraqi, and Central American immigrants, key informant interviews and focus groups were conducted to identify mothers' perceptions of and experie...

Diagnostic Evaluation of Autism Spectrum Disorder in Pediatric Primary Care
CONCLUSIONS: This model was successful in shortening the interval from referral to diagnosis resulting in significant decrease of age at diagnosis compared with the national average. Widespread implementation could improve access to timely diagnostic services and improve outcomes for children with ASD.PMID:38650542 | DOI:10.1177/21501319241247997 (Source: Primary Care)

Postresidency Practice Setting and Clinical Care Features According to 3 Versus 4 Years of Training in Family Medicine: A Length of Training Pilot Study
CONCLUSIONS: Training length did not affect practice setting or practice features for graduates of LoTP programs. Future LoTP analyses will examine how length of training affects scope of practice and clinical preparedness, which may elucidate other elements associated with practice choice.PMID:38652847 | DOI:10.22454/FamMed.2024.699625 (Source: Famly Medicine)

Thinking and Enacting the Patient Medical Home Under Pandemic Conditions: A Qualitative Study From Primary Care in Alberta, Canada
DISCUSSION: Delivering PHC through the PMH allowed physicians and allied health staff to deliver patient-centered, team-based, holistic bio-medical services to Albertans. In tailoring services to meet the specific social and health needs of the populations served by each PCN, healthcare providers were able to ensure relevant support remained available and accessible.PMID:38627966 | PMC:PMC11022528 | DOI:10.1177/21501319241236007 (Source: Primary Care)

Psychologists and Integrated Behavioral Health Simulation Training: A Survey of Medical Educators and Perspectives of Directors of Clinical Training
AbstractIt is well established that the integration of behavioral healthcare into the medical home model improves patient outcomes, reduces costs, and increases resident learning. As academic health centers increasingly integrate behavioral healthcare, targeted training for interprofessional collaboration around behavioral healthcare is needed. Simulation educational approaches potentially can provide this training. Health service psychologists are well-poised to support this because of their specialized training in integrated healthcare. The present exploratory study aimed to evaluate existing simulation programs and deve...

The association between a patient-centered quality of care index and self-efficacy among cancer survivors
ConclusionOur findings indicate that higher quality patient-centered care is associated with greater cancer survivor self-efficacy. Given that self-efficacy is correlated with improved health outcomes and quality of life, this finding further supports the importance of high-quality patient-centered survivorship care.Implications of Cancer SurvivorsHigh-quality patient-centered survivorship care was associated with higher patient self-efficacy. This association should further be explored among cancer survivors with diverse characteristics. (Source: Journal of Cancer Survivorship)

Diabetes in Trauma Patients: A Potential Gateway to a Medical Home
DISCUSSION: One in four trauma patients would benefit from improved outpatient glycemic management, representing a missed opportunity for preventative health care. Trauma centers should develop strategies to meet this need as part of their post-discharge care.PMID:38516800 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241241615 (Source: The American Surgeon)
