Characteristics and Outcome of Neonates With Postnatally Diagnosed Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
This study investigated the characteristics and outcome data of children with prenatally unrecognized CDH.METHODS: Postnatally diagnosed CDH newborns treated at the University Hospital Bonn between 2012 and 2021 were included. Treatment and outcome data were compared according to type of maternity hospital, Apgar values, and between prenatally and postnatally diagnosed CDH.RESULTS: Of 244 CDH newborns, 22 were included. Comparison for birth in a facility with vs. without pediatric care showed for mortality: 9% vs. 27%, p=0.478; ECMO rate: 9% vs. 36%, p=0.300; age at diagnosis: 84 vs. 129 min, p=0.049; time between intubati...

Evaluation of the "Neonatal Sequential Organ Failure Assessment" to Predict Mortality in Late-Onset Sepsis in Very Preterm Infants
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the use of nSOFA to predict mortality and morbidity in extremely preterm infants seems feasible. The scoring system could be improved by evaluating the other parameters.PMID:38081215 | DOI:10.1055/a-2165-8307 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie)

Electroencephalographic Changes in Pregnant Women with Hyperemesis Gravidarum: A Case-Control Study
CONCLUSION: Theta, beta, and gamma band abnormalities in the centro-parietal area of the right hemisphere and delta, beta, and gamma band abnormalities in the temporal area of the right hemisphere were observed on HEG. However, it is unclear whether abnormalities in EEG are primary changes responsible for the development of HEG or secondary to metabolic and hormonal changes resulting from HEG itself.PMID:38081216 | DOI:10.1055/a-2211-6922 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie)

Influence of Fetomaternal Risk Factors on Mortality and Morbidity in Extremely Preterm Infants
CONCLUSION: Data regarding mortality correlate with national findings. Observed morbidity in the study population was recorded. The prediction of probability of survival is more precise when risk factors are taken into consideration.PMID:38081217 | DOI:10.1055/a-2198-9124 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie)

Hyperemesis Gravidarum - an Interprofessional and Interdisciplinary Challenge - Evidence-Based Review
Z Geburtshilfe Neonatol. 2023 Dec 8. doi: 10.1055/a-2200-9686. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a multifactorial disease characterized by severe and persisting nausea and vomiting, impairment of oral intake, weight loss of at least 5%, electrolyte abnormalities, and dehydration. The prevalence of HG ranges from 0.3 to 10% worldwide. The diagnosis is made by the patient's prehistory, clinical symptoms, physical examination, and the typical laboratory abnormalities. Therapeutic cornerstones are nutrition advice, consultation of life style, psychological/psychosocial support of the mother as well a...
