A Measure to Assess Perceptions and Knowledge About Electroconvulsive Therapy: Development and Psychometric Properties
Conclusions Together, these results showed that the ECT-PK is an efficient and effective contemporary tool to measure the perception and knowledge of ECT, and highlights areas in need of psychoeducation. (Source: The Journal of ECT)

Unusual Set of Adverse Effects During Right-Unilateral Ultrabrief Electroconvulsive Therapy Led to the Discovery of a Brain Tumor: A Case Report
We describe a case of a right-handed, 42-year-old, Caucasian female patient who manifested a set of unusual adverse effects during maintenance ultrabrief right-unilateral electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)—generalized myoclonic secondary seizure with lateralization nonresponsive to repeated intravenous diazepam application, deviation of the tongue and the head to the left, ping-pong gaze with nystagmoid jerks, postictal hypoactive confusion state lasting 15 minutes (with a total time to recovery 30 minutes), and likely Todd's paralysis after the procedure (subsided within 24 hours). These adverse effects led to a thorough c...

Motor Function Improvement After Electroconvulsive Therapy in a Parkinson’s Disease Patient With Deep Brain Stimulator
We present the case of a woman with DBS as a treatment for PD, safely treated with ECT for a psychotic depression. Depression severity and motor changes were evaluated on a weekly basis using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale and the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale. During the course of ECT, the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale score declined from 34 to 13, and the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale motor score from 44 to 12 with positive impact on rigidity. Considering the positive impact of ECT on the motor function in our patient, new research should look into ECT as an augmentation...

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in the Treatment of Skin Picking Disorder: An Exploratory Trial
Conclusions In this exploratory study, active rTMS could not be demonstrated to be superior over sham in treatment of SPD. The results of this study indicate the need for further rTMS studies to be conducted with larger sample sizes and subtypes of SPD. (Source: The Journal of ECT)

Assessing Public Attitudes to Electroconvulsive Therapy: Validation of the Modified ECT Attitudes Questionnaire Using a Systematic Analysis
Conclusions The EAQ is a validated and reliable scale for the measurement of attitudes toward ECT. Application of this scale to 196 members of the public indicates that negative attitudes are rooted in individuals' moral and ethical objections to ECT, particularly the emotion components of such attitudes. This scale can be applied to other groups, including service users, to further characterize attitudes that underlie the stigma toward ECT. (Source: The Journal of ECT)

A Descriptive Study of Data Collection Systems Used in Electroconvulsive Therapy Units in the Province of Quebec, Canada
Conclusions An integrated ECT provincial data collection system could overcome the variability documented in existing strategies and respond to the current provincial needs and expectations. Also, an integrated ECT provincial data collection system could support both clinical research and quality assurance necessary to inform standards of ECT practice in Quebec.
