Alcohol and cannabis dual use among Black adults: Associations with alcohol use, use-related problems, and race-based discrimination
CONCLUSIONS: The use of cannabis among Black young adults who drink alcohol was related to heavier drinking and more alcohol-related problems. Further, experiencing more microaggressions may place these individuals at risk for using multiple substances, presumably to cope with these experiences.SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Considering models suggesting that the dual use of cannabis may result in less alcohol use, the current study highlights that for Black adults who consume alcohol, cannabis dual use is related to heavier drinking and more alcohol-related problems, which can inform intervention and treatment efforts.PMID:3768...

Opioid and benzodiazepine misuse in the United States: The impact of socio-demographic characteristics
CONCLUSION AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: A large portion of US adults are misusing opioids, benzodiazepines, and both drugs. Specifically, bisexual individuals experience higher odds of opioid misuse, benzodiazepine misuse and misuse of both drugs compared with heterosexuals, while males are experiencing lower odds of benzodiazepine misuse compared with females. Individuals aged 26-49 experience the highest odds of opioid misuse, though misuse of both drugs was higher among the 18-25 age group. Findings underscore the use of targeted preventive measures to reduce misuse of these drugs among at-risk populations identified in...

Personality predicting relapse: A facet analysis of the NEO PI-R
CONCLUSIONS AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: Several personality domains and facets were significantly related to relapse, confirming and expanding on prior literature. This study focuses on the risk of relapse as it relates to NEO PI-R individual facets, which have not been previously explored with a sample size of this magnitude. These findings can guide clinical care of patients with SUD, allowing for more targeted treatment.PMID:37667561 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13477 (Source: The American Journal on Addictions)

Differences in the prevalence and clinical correlates of depressive symptoms in male patients with methamphetamine and heroin use disorder in a Chinese Han population
CONCLUSIONS AND SCIENTIFIC SIGNIFICANCE: The prevalence and correlates of depressive symptoms differ between MAUD and HUD, adding to the existing literature. Therefore, treatment and intervention programs should be designed to address these unique correlates in HUD and MAUD patients.PMID:37644677 | DOI:10.1111/ajad.13476 (Source: The American Journal on Addictions)
