Functional Assessment of Handwriting Among Children: A Systematic Review of the Psychometric Properties
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this systematic review, existing tools were evaluated by clinical utility and the quality of psychometric properties. Direct assessments showed good psychometric properties. Indirect and self-assessment tools demonstrated poor psychometric properties. Further research on screening tools and tools in other languages is needed. What This Article Adds: Specific learning disorders (e.g., dysgraphia) negatively affect academic learning and, when prolonged in time, self-concept. However, handwriting legibility and speed assessments could be used to identify and evaluate these learning disorders if a...

Occupational Therapy Practice Guidelines for Adults With Stroke
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Interventions with strong strength of evidence for improving performance in activities of daily living and functional mobility include mirror therapy, task-oriented training, mental imagery, balance training, self-management strategies, and a multidisciplinary three-stages-of-care rehabilitation program. Constraint-induced therapy has strong strength of evidence for improving performance of instrumental activities of daily living. Moderate strength of evidence supported cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to address balance self-efficacy, long-term group intervention to improve mobility in t...

Effects of an Occupation-Based Intervention on Hand and Upper Extremity Function, Daily Activities, and Quality of Life in People With Burn Injuries: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: According to the results, the occupation-based interventions are as effective as traditional therapeutic interventions for the improvement of hand and upper extremity function, ability to perform daily activities, and quality of life in people with burn injuries. What This Article Adds: The CO-OP protocol, as an occupation-based intervention, can improve hand performance, ability to perform daily activities, and quality of life in people with burn injuries, and thus it can be useful in rehabilitation clinics.PMID:37851587 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2023.050115 (Source: The American Journal of Occupational Therapy)

The Revised American Occupational Therapy Association Fieldwork Performance Evaluations: Evaluation of Internal Structure, Response Processes, and Precision-Part 2
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The findings support that the revised FWPEs for the OTS and OTAS demonstrate preliminary evidence of internal structure, response processes, and precision, supporting evidence-based practice in fieldwork evaluations. What This Article Adds: This article highlights evidence demonstrating the validity and precision of the revised American Occupational Therapy Association's Fieldwork Performance Evaluation items and supports academic and fieldwork settings for occupational therapy students and occupational therapy assistant students.PMID:37851588 | DOI:10.5014/ajot.2023.050207 (Source: The American ...
