Spontaneous reperfusion in STEMI: Its mechanisms and possible modulation
Kardiol Pol. 2024 Mar 17. doi: 10.33963/v.phj.99737. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPatients with transient ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction or spontaneous reperfusion, which occurs in approximately 20% of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), have smaller infarcts and more favourable clinical outcomes than patients without spontaneous reperfusion. Understanding the mechanisms underlying spontaneous reperfusion is therefore important, since this may identify possible novel therapeutic targets to improve outcomes in patients with STEMI. In this review, we discuss some of the possible det...

Left atrial appendage occlusion: Percutaneous and surgical approaches in everyday practice
Kardiol Pol. 2024 Mar 17. doi: 10.33963/v.phj.99369. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProphylactic left atrial appendage occlusion has been suggested as a means of cardioembolism risk reduction in patients with atrial fibrillation. Its clinical benefits have been discussed together with potential endocrine or hemodynamic adverse effects, providing conflicting resolutions. We aimed to provide a thorough overview of the current literature and a recommendation for daily clinical decision making. A comprehensive Medline search through PubMed was utilized to search for relevant articles, further filtered by the title and abstract....

Impact of chronic total occlusion on prognosis in cardiogenic shock due to unprotected left main coronary artery culprit lesion. Insights from the Polish Registry of Acute Coronary Syndromes
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis showed that in patients with CS due to ULMCL-related AMI treated with PCI, the presence of CTO is associated with worse 12-month prognosis.PMID:38493472 | DOI:10.33963/v.phj.98889 (Source: Kardiologia Polska)

Do children with asymptomatic ventricular preexcitation have similar quality of life as healthy children?
CONCLUSIONS: The children with WPW were more dissatisfied with their health compared to healthy children. Although both groups of children had similar levels of satisfaction with their QoL, some areas of physical and psychological parameters of QoL were worse in WPW children. The PARS questionnaire is a useful tool as a disease-specific QoL instrument, which supplements the general questionnaire and aids in clinical practice and decision-making.PMID:38493473 | DOI:10.33963/v.phj.99291 (Source: Kardiologia Polska)

Optimizing drug adherence in hypertension: More than a mind game
Kardiol Pol. 2024 Mar 15. doi: 10.33963/v.phj.99493. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA poor drug adherence to prescribed drug treatments and lifestyle recommendations is a major determinant of the poor blood pressure control reported around the World. Prevalence rates of anti-hypertensive medication non-adherence are highly variable depending on the studied population and may reach up to 40%. Remarkably, the phenomenon stays often undiagnosed and unaddressed mainly because physicians have limited tools to perform a reliable diagnosis. In this practically-oriented review, 5 principal aspects of nonadherence will be addressed ...
