Association between changed self-rated health and the risk of venous thromboembolism in Malm ö Preventive Program: a cohort study
This study focuses on the association between change in SRH and incident VTE in a cohort of 11,558 men and 6682 women who underwent a baseline examination and assessment of SRH between 1974 and 1992 and a re-examination in 2002 –2006. To investigate if changes in SRH over time affect the risk of incident VTE in men and women. During a follow-up time from the re-examination of more than 16 years, there was a lower risk for incident VTE among women if SRH changed from poor at baseline to very good/excellent (HR 0.46, 95% CI 0.28; 0.74) at the re-examination. Stable good SRH (good to very good/excellent at the re-examinati...

Effects of elevated remnant cholesterol on outcomes of acute ischemic stroke patients receiving mechanical thrombectomy
Conclusion: In AIS patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy, elevated RC was independently related to poor outcome for non-LAA stroke patients, but not to short-term prognosis of LAA stroke patients. (Source: Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis)

Short-term antiplatelet versus anticoagulant therapy after left atrial appendage closure: a systematic review and meta-analysis
AbstractThis meta-analysis compared the efficacy and safety of different antithrombotic regimens after left atrial appendage closure (LAAC).  PubMed, Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched from their inception to March 2023. Patients were divided into short-term oral anticoagulation (OAC) group and antiplatelet therapy (APT) group. The incidence of events were performed using RevMan 5.4. The events incl uding device-related thrombus (DRT), ischemic stroke/systemic embolization (SE), major bleeding, any bleeding, any major adverse event and all-cause mortality. Subgroup analysis were based...

Digital dashboards for direct oral anticoagulant surveillance, intervention and operational efficiency: uptake, obstacles, and opportunities
AbstractDirect oral anticoagulants (DOAC) are the most widely prescribed oral anticoagulants in the United States. Despite advantages over warfarin, system-level improvements are needed to optimize outcomes. While Veterans Health Administration and others have described successful DOAC management dashboard implementation, the extent of use nationally is unknown. A survey of Anticoagulation Forum ’s members was conducted to assess access to digital tools available within a dashboard and to describe implementation models. An Expert Forum was subsequently convened to identify barriers to dashboard development and adoption. ...

Early assessment of the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic effects following acetylsalicylic acid loading: toward a definition for acute therapeutic response
AbstractDespite decades of investigations, the optimal assessment of the “therapeutic response” to early after loading dose of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) remains unclear. Limited information is available on the relation between pharmacodynamic (PD) and pharmacokinetic (PK) measurements assessed immediately after ASA administration. Serial PD and PK analyses were perf ormed immediately after a single 162 or 650 mg dose of chewed and swallowed ASA in ten healthy adults. ASA response was defined as >  95% inhibition of serum thromboxane (Tx)B2, <  550 aspirin reaction units (ARU) by VerifyNow Aspirin (VN) t...

Prevalence of atrial fibrillation and reasons for undertreatment with oral anticoagulants
ConclusionsIn the population of V ästernorrland County, a very high AF prevalence of 4.7% was found, of which just over 90% would theoretically benefit from OAC treatment. This is higher than previously reported and stresses the importance of stroke prevention in this large patient group. (Source: Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis)

Higher triglyceride levels are associated with the higher prevalence of layered plaques in non-culprit coronary plaques
This study aimed to clarify the association between TG levels and characteristics of non-culprit coronary plaques in patients with CAD. A total of 531 consecutive patients with stable CAD who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention for culprit lesions and optical coherence tomography (OCT) assessment of non-culprit plaques in the culprit vessel were included in this study. The morphology of the non-culprit plaques assessed by OCT imaging were compared between the higher TG (TG  ≥ 150 mg/dL, n = 197) and lower TG (TG <  150 mg/dL, n = 334) groups. The prevalence of layered plaques (40.1 vs. 27.5...
