Drug-Drug Interaction Checker
Drugs are chemical substances intended for use in the cure, treatment, or prevention of diseases. When different drugs are taken together, a drug-drug interaction can delay, decrease, or enhance absorption of either drug and may cause adverse effects. Therefore, a system that allows the user to easily check drug-drug interaction has been designed. The drug-drug interaction database is integrated into decision support systems to be used in hospitals and pharmacies for clinical evaluation of interactions. The database has been created by using Microsoft Excel sheet that involves 3 sheets representing groups, drugs, and inter...

Quantification Methodology of Health Technology in Senegalese Healthcare Facilities via New Indicator—“TechSan”
For more than 30 years, the management of medical equipment has largely focused on maintenance aspects. Many inventory-based indicators have been developed to ensure optimal follow-up of devices. However, certain qualitative aspects of medical devices are not taken into account by these usual indicators. This motivated the development of a quantifying indicator of “health technology” specific to each medical device and called “TechSan.” Based on the work of Fennigkoh and Smith in 1989 (Clinical equipment management. Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations Plant Technology and Safety Management...

The flu continues to be a major epidemic that threatens the health of millions around the world each year. The good news is that virtual care solutions can help prevent the spread of this awful illness. (Source: Journal of Clinical Engineering)

Clinical Engineering and Disposables
The scope of clinical engineering generally includes the selection, use, maintenance, and repair of multiuse medical devices. This may also include active participation in the selection of devices for purchase and incident investigations. Increasingly clinical engineering has also played a role in connectivity of medical devices and in the exercise of cybersecurity. Clinical engineering has less often been actively engaged in the selection and use of disposable and single-use medical devices, but some of the same skills that support reusable assets can and should be applied to the selection and use of disposables.
