Narrative Synthesis: Considerations and challenges.
Background: Narrative synthesis is a common approach to the synthesis of data in systematic reviews, however methodological guidance on the conduct of narrative syntheses is limited. As a result, in reviews where statistical or other formal methods of pooling of data is not possible or appropriate, approaches to summarising and presenting findings narratively is varied and often inadequate. Narrative synthesis goes beyond the act of simply describing and summarising the main features of included studies. It enables investigation of similarities and differences between studies, exploration of relationships within the data a...

Covidence vs Excel for the title and abstract review stage of a systematic review.
Conclusion: Our training experience indicates that Covidence has the potential to greatly facilitate the title and abstract review stage of a JBI systematic review. While the online platform has been available for free, there will be a subscription fee introduced in May, 2016, which may limit the availability of this program for some researchers in the future. Evaluation on effectiveness and safety of peripherally inserted central catheters technology: An overview of systematic review.
Conclusion: The methodological quality of included literatures is not high and the quality of evidence of outcomes is most low. As a whole, there is not enough evidence to support that PICC is more effective than CVC and VPA. The risk of complications for PICC is lower than CVC and VPA during insertion. But the risk of complications for PICC is higher than CVC and VPA during maintaining. Due to limitation of quality and quantity of included systematic reviews, the conclusions need more high quality studies to support. Effectiveness of operative interventions in individuals with a hemi or total hip arthroplasty who sustain a Vancouver B2 peri-prosthetic femoral fracture: a systematic review protocol.
Conclusion: Systematic review is in progress. We hypotheses that selected Vancouver type B2 PPF fractures can be successfully managed with open reduction internal fixation alone. NCLEX - looking beyond passing.
Conclusion: The successful identification of educational practices that positively correlate with degree of success of graduates in passing the NCLEX-RN can be expected to provide new opportunities for nursing education programs to consider similar practices, thereby improving licensing success rates for their own graduates. Survival outcomes following aggressive treatment of oligometastatic breast cancer: A systematic review protocol.
Background: Breast cancer is the third most common cancer in Australia following prostate and bowel cancer, contributing to approximately 12 per cent of new cancer diagnoses in Australia.1 Survival statistics for breast cancer are improving, likely due to population screening resulting in earlier detection and advances and widespread availability of systemic therapies.2,3 Oligometastatic disease is a subset of metastatic breast cancer defined by single or few (usually (Source: International Journal of Evidence-Based Healthcare)

Effectiveness of dietary restrictions on colon preparation before colonoscopy: A comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.
Background: A dietary regimen consisting of a clear liquid diet for at least 24 to 48 hours is recommended for colonoscopy preparation. However, this diet restriction is often leads to poor patient compliance, reduced bowel cleansing, and ultimately inadequate examinations. Objective: A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted to compare the efficacy and tolerability of different dietary restrictions. Methods: Multiple databases were searched in January, 2015. Randomized controlled trials comparing different dietary restrictions for bowel preparation before colonoscopy were included in this review. Data were an...

Prophylactic ondansetron for prevention of maternal hypotension following spinal anesthesia in women undergoing cesarean section: A systematic review.
Conclusion: Administration of ondansetron (4 mg) prior to spinal anesthesia can be recommended to help prevent the incidence of hypotension in the pregnant patient undergoing elective cesarean section. Implications for practice Anesthesia professionals utilizing ondansetron (4 mg) will realize a reduction in spinal anesthesia induced hypotension in the parturient for an elective cesarean section. This may impact patient outcomes and current practices by decreasing the adverse events associated with hypotension in this population and satisfaction in both patient and anesthesia provider. Transition from Clinical Expert to Novice Academic Nurse Educator: A Metasynthesis of Qualitative Evidence.
Conclusion: Expert nurse clinicians are an important resource for easing the faculty shortage. However, they often are left on their own to navigate becoming a nurse educator. To ease their transition, the academy must create welcoming communities that provide ongoing orientation to the academic culture, intentional mentoring, and professional development in teaching and learning. Differences in the type of BPSD and caregiver burden among three major clinical subtypes of FTD: a systematic review protocol
Background: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is the most common dementia among young-onset dementia (Onyike et al., 2013). Major difficulty people with young-onset dementia getting an accurate diagnosis, loss of employment and job-related income and a lack/shortage of services tailored to young-onset dementia. Informal caregivers of FTD patients seem to have additional stress when compared with those who care Alzeimer's disease. Two systematic reviews were published recently and summarize that caregivers of patients with FTD tended to have higher caregiver burden than those of AD patients. These reviews have not taken the di...

Trial Sequential Analysis: An approach to furthering the interpretation of ‘significant’ and ‘non-significant’ meta-analyses‘
Background: The problem of multiple testing is a well-known concept when analysing data from clinical trials and observational studies, and many statistical approaches have been developed to adjust for multiple comparisons. The issue of multiple testing is also relevant to meta-analysis, particularly when systematic reviews and their associated meta-analyses are updated. However, until recently the issue was often overlooked within meta-analyses. Trial Sequential Analysis (TSA) is one approach that can be used to adjust for multiple testing in meta-analyses. Objective: This presentation will describe the problem of multip...

The effectiveness of bright light therapy in combination with antidepressants compared to antidepressants alone in patients with nonseasonal major depressive disorder: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusion: Both bright light therapy in combination with antidepressants or antidepressant alone was effective in reducing depressive symptoms in the treatment of patients with nonseasonal major depressive disorder. However, the evidence is not strong enough due to some methodological limitations in the reviewed studies. There is a need for future research using more rigorous research designs with a larger number of samples.
