SARS-CoV-2 Virus Infection-Related Arterial Thromboembolism Leading to Critical Limb Ischemia and Amputation
We report a dramatic case of a 55-year-old male with confirmed COVID-19 infection who presented with acute left critical limb ischemia leading to amputation as a result of thromboembolism from a distal abdominal aortic thrombus. Our case report contributes to the limited body of literature on COVID-19-related arterial thromboembolism. The patient consented to publish this case. Frozen Elephant Trunk Technique to Treat Extensive Thoracic Aortic Mural Thrombus
We describe a case report of a 63-year-old man who presented with chronic left-hand weakness and the absence of a pulse in the left arm. Thoracoabdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed an extensive thoracic aortic mural thrombus. Initial anticoagulation therapy did not provide a positive result, so the patient was referred for surgery. Hybrid aortic arch surgery using the frozen elephant trunk technique was performed with excellent early outcomes. A CT performed in the early postoperative period showed that the thrombus was completely excluded from the aortic lumen by the hybrid graft. No thrombus dislodgment was detect...

Left Atrial Myxoma and Antiphospholipid Syndrome —A Case Report
We report an unusual case of the left atrial myxoma and concomitant APS in a female patient who presented with right-sided hemiplegia. Although rare, we must think about the CM in patients with a newly diagnosed APS and left atrial mass. Nevertheless, we must make a distinction from other possible cardiac structures, especially atrial thrombus. Transthoracic echocardiography is the most frequently used initial imaging modality to detect CM. The aim of this case report was to emphasize that additional imaging modalities and multidisciplinary approach are mandatory in making a proper diagnosis and to choose a further treatme...

Intracaval Leiomyoma with Intracardiac Extension
The objective of this study was to explain step by step how to achieve a complete resection of an intravascular leiomyoma. A 48-year-old woman was referred to our institution with progressive dyspnea on exertion, lightheadedness, and previous history of total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for a uterine leiomyoma echocardiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging of the heart and abdomen/pelvis were performed and an intracaval mass with extension into the right heart and pulmonary artery was identified. After multidisciplinary review, a single-stage sternotomy–laparotomy pro...

Hybrid Repair with Reversed Sequence Supra-aortic Debranching in Ruptured Arch Aneurysm
This report describes a “reversed sequence” extra-anatomical supra-aortic debranching procedure as a salvage technique performed to enable HAR. An 83-year-old woman with a history of ascending aortic replacement for type A aortic dissection, mediastinitis complicated by sternal osteomyelitis, and a chest wall reconstructed with a rectus abdominis myocutaneous flap presented with chest pain because of a contained dissecting arch aneurysm rupture. The patient underwent supra-aortic debranching from the bilateral common femoral arteries and thoracic endovascular aortic repair to the ascending aorta under cerebral near-inf...

Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty in Chronic Total Subclavian Venous Stenosis Using Coronary Guidewire: A Case Report
We describe our experience in performing PTA and stent deployment using coronary wire to penetrate total occlusion in subclavian venous stenosis after vein cannulation. We hope that we can give an alternative technique to avoid surgery in such cases. A “20/20” Match: ACC/AHA 2017 versus ESC/ESH 2018 Guidelines for Management of Hypertension
Int J Angiol 2021; 30: 243-248 DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1732433Hypertension, the commonest noncommunicable disease globally, is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease and renal failure. Theoretically, while it is easy to diagnose and manage by simple measures, practically it has been observed that not only treatment but also diagnosis and its preventive measures are inadequate in developing as well as developed nations. Several guidelines by various international organizations are available to guide clinicians for hypertension management. Though the basic principles of hypertension management are similar in all the...

Coronary Artery Fistulae in Adult: Two Decades of Experience in Clinical Presentation, Angiographic Feature, and Management
Int J Angiol DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1727134Coronary artery fistula (CAF) in adults is a rare but significant coronary artery anomaly. Main data on that rare disease were mostly obtained from case reports and small studies. In presented study, we share our two-decade experience on the clinical and angiographic characteristics of CAF.The data were collected retrospectively by analyzing the angiographic data between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2019. Demographic data, clinical data, laboratory, and cardiac catheterization reports were reviewed.CAFs were found in 40 patients (0.06%). There were 22 male (55%) patients. The mea...

The Current State of Coronary Revascularization: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention versus Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery
The objective of this review is to briefly discuss these key early trials, as well as explore contemporary studies, to provide insight on the current state of coronary revascularization. Evidence suggests that in ULMD and MVD, there are similar mortality rates for CABG and PCI but PCI is associated with fewer “early” strokes, whereas CABG is associated with fewer “late” strokes, myocardial infarctions, and lower need for repeat revascularization. Additionally, studies suggest that CABG remains superior to PCI in patients with intermediate/high SYNTAX scores and in MVD with concomitant proximal left anterior descend...

CABG versus PCI in the Treatment of Unprotected Left Main Disease in Diabetics: A Literature Review
Int J Angiol 2021; 30: 187-193 DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1735517The approach to left main coronary artery disease (CAD) in diabetic patients has been extensively debated. Diabetic patients have an elevated risk of left main disease in addition to multivessel disease. Previous trials have shown increased revascularization rates in percutaneous coronary intervention compared with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) but overall comparable outcomes, although many of these studies were not using the latest stent technology or CABG with arterial revascularization. Our aim is to review the most recent trials that have recently publi...

Understanding Pacemaker-Induced Cardiomyopathy Incidence and Predictors in Patients with Right Ventricular Pacing: A Systematic Review
This study aimed to figure out the incidence and predictors of pacemaker-induced cardiomyopathy (PICM) in patients with right ventricular (RV) pacing. We systematically searched in PubMed on March 18, 2020, for English language abstract and full-article journals, using the following criteria: pacemaker induced cardiomyopathy AND right ventricular AND pacemaker AND patients AND human NOT implantable cardioverter defibrillator NOT ICD NOT animal. Four studies were included in this review after filtering 35 studies through year of publication and abstract selection. The average PICM incidence from 1,365 patients included from...

The Retrospective Analysis of Google Queries Related to Cardiovascular Diseases Symptoms in the Years 2004 –2019
Int J Angiol DOI: 10.1055/s-0041-1735203The Internet enables immediate access to health-related information. We aimed to rank the complaints related to cardiovascular diseases among Google users globally and locally as well as investigate secular and seasonal trends in the years 2004 to 2019. We used Google Trends (GT) to identify and analyze course over time and regional interest of seven topics: “Chest pain,” “Cyanosis,” “Edema,” “Orthopnea,” “Palpitation,” “Shortness of breath,” and “Syncope.” We analyzed secular trends using the seasonal Mann–Kendall test and seasonal variation using time ...
