Health and illness beliefs regarding pain and pain management of New Zealand resident S āmoan community leaders: A qualitative interpretive study based on Pasifika paradigms
CONCLUSIONS: Sāmoan people have beliefs and perceptions about pain and its management that extend beyond traditional Western interpretations. While pain is often endured using traditional strengths within the 'āīga (family) and community, the Sāmoan community faces challenges in receiving healthcare from mainstream pain services. SO WHAT?: Clinicians need to foster stronger relationships with Sāmoan individuals and their 'āīga and appreciate the wider psychosocial context of pain, including spirituality.PMID:37749071 | DOI:10.1002/hpja.800 (Source: Health Promotion Journal of Australia)

Googling long-acting reversible contraception: A scoping review examining the information available online about intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants
CONCLUSIONS: Most webpages provided medically accurate information to consumers; however, many did not include key information such as cost or how they work. Descriptions of side effects varied between webpages, and this may inhibit informed decision-making. SO WHAT?: Most people make decisions about what contraceptive method they might like to use before visiting a health care provider, and most will get this information from the internet. Providing comprehensive, medically accurate and consistent information about both IUDs and contraceptive implants is vital to support informed decision-making.PMID:37700511 | DOI:10.100...

Health Promot J Austr. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1002/hpja.794. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTISSUE ADDRESSED: Three years have passed since the Australian Government's Department of Health released its National Men's Health Strategy 2020-2030. Presently, little evidence is available to show whether the strategy has achieved success in rectifying men's mental-ill health, particularly the experience of stigma when expressing vulnerable emotions such as grief. Concurrently, research within the field of psychology continues to show that men experience significant pressure to conform faithfully to their socialised gender role. Give...
