Classification based on sparse representations of attributes derived from empirical mode decomposition in a multiclass problem of motor imagery in EEG signals
ConclusionThe improvement of self-adaptive mechanisms that respond efficiently to the user ’s context is a good way to achieve improvements in motor imagery applications. However, other scenarios should be investigated, since the advantage of these methods was not proven in all datasets studied. There is still room for improvement, such as optimizing the dictionary of sparse representat ion in the context of motor imagery. Investing efforts in synthetically increasing the training base has also proved important to reduce the costs of this group of applications. (Source: Health and Technology)

Internet of things in Healthcare: a conventional literature review
ConclusionsBased on the reviewed articles in this paper, it is has been concluded that IoT devices are beneficial in the healthcare applications, regardless of their limitations in terms of energy, processing, and storage. It is a promising technology that can save time and effort to the practitioners and doctors. Several architectures and technologies are discussed as well as the limitations, which enables researchers to tackle those limitations. However, the future of IoT healthcare holds immense potential for high-security enabled and pervasive applications. Analyzing vast healthcare data using deep learning techniques ...

Prototyping and testing an accessible e-health patient portal designed to include patients with/without vision or hearing impairments
ConclusionWe recommend that healthcare policy makers ensure that these accessible features are included in the existing patient portal. Healthcare service providers, developers, and designers must all cooperate to provide a simple design and the required technical support, accompanied by adequate training for patients with vision and hearing impairments. Effects of home telemonitoring using non-invasive versus conventional approaches on patients affected by congestive heart failure: a systematic literature review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAlthough there were limitations to the evidence provided in this review such as wide variations in certain variables (e.g., sample populations, RoB assessment, telemonitoring tools, follow-up periods), issues with allocation concealment and blinding of participants and personnel, and paucity of data for synthesizing particular outcomes of interest, overall, telemonitoring seems to offer much better results in the treatment of CHF patients compared to usual care.Registration and protocolThis systematic review and meta-analysis has been retrospectively registered in the Open Science Framework (OSF) repository withh...

Towards clinical use of varian clinac iX linear accelerator in a low resource radiotherapy facility: evaluation of commissioning data
ConclusionIn a low-resource radiotherapy facility in Ghana, the Varian Clinac IX linear accelerator was commissioned for the dual photon and four-electron energy beams. The study demonstrated that the newly installed dual photon beam energy (6 MV and 16 MV) and electron beam energy (6  MeV, 9 MeV, 12 MeV, and 16 MeV) Linac meets all the manufacturer's specifications. The measured percentage depth dose data, beam profiles, output factors, and other parameters were analyzed and integrated into the Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS). All the commissioning beam measurements and tests performed on the Linac under study...

In-vivo dosimetry with EBT-3 gafchromic films and thermoluminescent dosimeters in breast cancer radiotherapy treatments
ConclusionThe level of accuracy between prescribed and measured doses is seen generally as acceptable in the study. EBT-3 film was found most accurate detector that we recommend for use in IVD. The study also shows that errors are reduced by applying various correction factors (field size, SSD, angle dependence, wedge, tray) while determining the patient received dose (depth dose). This study served as part of patient quality assurance at the radiotherapy centre as recommended by national regulatory bodies and international requirements. (Source: Health and Technology)
