Stool DNA testing for early detection of colorectal cancer: systematic review using the HTA Core Model < sup > ® < /sup > for Rapid Relative Effectiveness Assessment
CONCLUSIONS: ColoAlert® is the only stool DNA test currently sold in Europe and is available at a lower price than Cologuard®, but reliable evidence is lacking. A screening study including the current product version of ColoAlert® and suitable comparators would, therefore, help evaluate the effectiveness of this screening option in a European context.PMID:37426885 | PMC:PMC10326527 | DOI:10.3205/000320 (Source: GMS German Medical Science)

Quality indicators in intensive care medicine for Germany - fourth edition 2022
Ger Med Sci. 2023 Jun 23;21:Doc10. doi: 10.3205/000324. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe measurement of quality indicators supports quality improvement initiatives. The German Interdisciplinary Society of Intensive Care Medicine (DIVI) has published quality indicators for intensive care medicine for the fourth time now. After a scheduled evaluation after three years, changes in several indicators were made. Other indicators were not changed or only minimally. The focus remained strongly on relevant treatment processes like management of analgesia and sedation, mechanical ventilation and weaning, and infections in the ICU. Anot...

Developing a novel device based on a new technology for non-invasive measurement of blood biomarkers irrespective of skin color
Ger Med Sci. 2023 Jun 23;21:Doc09. doi: 10.3205/000323. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Human hemoglobin is a tetrameric metalloporphyrin. The heme part contains iron radicle and porphyrin. The globin part consists of two pairs of amino-acid chains. The absorption spectrum of hemoglobin spans from 250 nm to as high as 2,500 nm, with high coefficients reported in blue and green color zone. The visible absorption spectrum of deoxyhemoglobin has one, while the visible absorption spectrum of oxyhemoglobin shows two peaks.OBJECTIVE: (1) To study absorption spectrometry of hemoglobin in 420 to 600 nm range; (2) to conduct p...

Initial observations on sexual dysfunction as a symptom of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy
CONCLUSION: In order to be able to narrow down the cause of these initial observations in cancer patients more precisely, larger studies are needed that can relate the influence of cancer therapy-induced PNP, physical activity level and hormone balance to sensory symptoms of the genital organs and sexual dysfunction. The methodology of further studies should take into account the frequent problem of low response rates in surveys on sexuality.PMID:37426888 | PMC:PMC10326524 | DOI:10.3205/000322 (Source: GMS German Medical Science)
